I was wondering if it is normal to have some prominent ware on the top of the barrel at the breech. It seems as if the slide is creating the bluing to come off. There is some streaking and two prominent lines where the steel is showing through. No problems just a little unsightly. I just want to see if this is a normal occurance. Look forward to everyones feedback. Thanks.

Polish the barrel and you'll hardly notice them.

Unsightly?! When someone looks at your pistol and they see the wear marks it says your pistol does not sit idle in the safe, unshot, uncarried. When I went to the funshop last week to get a new front sight for my Glock there was another fella there doing the same thing. He brought his gun in and took it apart so they could put the sights on for him. He said he had his G23 for a couple years. I been around Glocks enough to know what a couple years of shooting does to the finish on the barrel. From the new looking barrel with no wear marks he would have been lucky to have shot 300 rounds in these couple years.

Don't be that guy. When shooters see that wear they know how it got there.......

Oh, I dont mind the marks, I just wanted to make sure that the gun was functioning properly. I love shooting, I just picked up the gun three weeks ago and already have 1000 or more rounds through it. It is a true man tool, lol. Nothing like driving nails with a true nail driver. I appreciate all the responses. I love this site, any question can get an answer.

I have been aware that my XD has wear where the slide contacts the barrel

Not really sure what some of you expect. The surface scuffing on the barrel and other parts occurs because there is a nice snug fit between two moving metal surfaces. This is normal. They will occur even if the pistol is never fired but you just racked the slide by hand several times. What you see is the surface coloration only, the melonite process that hardens and protects the metal is penetrated quite deep into the material and is not effected by having or not having a top coat color. The black top finish is not the Melonite process.

Check the posts where owners have polished off all the top coloration for a mirror metallic shine - without any degradation of the melonite or the protection it affords.

That's not the breech. That's the muzzle.

Normal wear if that is what you want to call it. I polished my entire barrel to a chrome like finish. Problem if it is indeed a prolem is now solved. ;)
