I'm now waiting on my kydex material to come in to begin making goodies for my gear.

Has anyone made their own holster and if so what pitfalls are there to look for while crafting a holster and mag pouch?

I'd like to form one to the XDm 45 4.5 with a TLR1 attached. Does anyone see a problem with holstering or drawing while the light is attached?

I have a M&P45 with a TRL light in a RCS with no issues whatsoever. I also have a XDm 45 but no light holster.

Awesome. I haven't seen many equipped and holstered with a light. Figured I'd ask.

Let us know how you mold the kydex with the light on the gun to make a channel wide enough to draw the gun.

ive dipped and dabbled in it..its not terribly difficult jus not real simple. few words of advice make sure you get a noncontact thermometer so you can check the temp of the kydex sheet ehrm its in the oven, cause if you heat it to fast or to hot you will get some very serious shrinkage, always give your self more than you need to work with cause when you press it itll take up more materieal than you thought it would, best way to get good definition is to heat your mold foam so it dont snatch your heat out the kydex before you get a good a press on it and make sure you keep even pressure across the entire area of it( and dont skimp on the press foam it makes a diff, get the good stuff trust me youll save your self money in the long run) and as far as molding the gun with the kydex load a magazine with empty shells so the press dont push on a empty mag well so you dont crack anything. use blue painters tape( or something simlilar) to cover your gun to keep the kydex from being in direct contact with it. dont forget to use something to make the sight tunnel so the sights dont snag and keep it from comming out. last but not least press the kydex one side at a time and you can put them together after your done that way the fit together tight instead of trying to keep everything centered in the press.

ps: make sure you post some pix!!

I found that half a clothes pin works great for the sight tunnel. I put the thicker end at the front sight and it tapers back well.

I was thinking about picking some up and giving this a shot. There are some great videos on YouTube on how to do this.

Thanks for the advice Kaotik, I hadn't even thought of heating the foam. I suppose a blow dryer would do the trick.

havnt tried a blow dryer but kinda doubt it would give enuff heat.i picked up a harbor freight heat gun for i think 12 bucks and works awesome and also puts out enuff heat that i can use it to relieve or pull bends out the kydex once its pressed for a beter fit or to change snugness. hope it help and plus if your mold dont turn out like you want it to, jus reheat it and it will flatten back out and can be reused.

ps. trial and error will help to get your individual process down
