Last night, at the suggestion of another member, I sent an email to Tactical Solutions regarding rumor of a XD .22 conversion kit. This morning, just over 12 hours later, I received this response:

    "

    Good news !

Yes we are in the design phase on the XD and M&P – They are scheduled for
production first quarter of next year.

We are currently working on the Glock project projected to start production 4th quarter this year.

All 3 of these projects will incorporate our Black Dog Magazines (Sister Company) for high quality magazines to complement the projects. A consistent quality magazine is as important as the conversion. We are designing these conversions to achieve the same performance and reliability (we have conversions with 70,000 rnds with no failures) as our 2211 conversions currently shot by top names in the industry.

    Thank you for your interest

    Regards

    Chet L. Alvord

I am sending them a reply inquiring about a waiting list, because there is NO way I'm missing the first run of these. I'm also seeking clarification regarding what type of finish (Melonite, Tennifer, etc etc) will be used, how many rounds to a mag (I'm hoping it's not a 10rd mag like every other .22 out there, but wouldn't be surprised given the shape of the .22 case), what slide lengths/frame types, and the estimated price (Note: their 2211 [1911 conversion] runs between $400-$450 depending on options, which is a bit pricey, but not absurd).

I'm hoping that this project doesn't get dumped. I know that many of us have been searching for a .22 conversion kit for the XD for some time, and hopefully this will provide us with exactly what we're looking for (and you M&P shooters out there can rejoice too!).

I am sending them a link to this thread, with the hope that you will all chime in and show support for the project. Let's show them that they have a solid base of people looking to get their hands on these units. I have no idea if Tactical Solutions will actually read this thread or not, but it can't hurt to throw out suggestions about what you're looking for. As an example, my ideal .22 Conversion Kit would have these features:

    16 round capacity
    2 mags in the kit
Similar weight and balance to regular XD
    Melonite/Tennifer finish
Replaceable sights (if you're using this for training purposes, the same sights as you use on your XD are a good idea)
    High reliability
    Easy take down
    A good warranty

If you have any suggestions, please post them here or email tactical solutions directly (especially with questions of your own) at:

    sales@tacticalsol.com
And check out their website at:
Tactical Solutions - Federally Licensed Firearms manufacturer - Tactical Solutions

As soon as I get a reply to my questions, I'll post it here for you all to read.

Add me to the list of XD9! A definite buy for me if they actually appear.

As a side note, I own a Buckmark and the forum I review is constantly praising the TS barrels and quality. So I'm sure a 22 conversion will be just as good.

Hopefully they'll be making one for the Sub-Compacts as well. If so, count me in...Do they take AMEX??

Great news. The only worrying part is that they are trying to make kits for three different guns at the same time.

Unlikely they will build one for the XDSC. They are going to have to pick an animal and if they are wise, they will go with the XDm platform first.

I would buy a kit for my XD Tactical, and agree that removable sights would be nice.

OS is right here. They will most likely make ONE kit. It's going to fit ONE member of the XD family.

The XD45 would take a different kit than the other calibers. It's highly possible that the XD9 would take a different kit than the XD40 due to the difference in the ejectors.

1911 kits fit .45ACP. Not 10mm, not 9mm, not .40 or any other caliber.

You might get lucky and get the same kit to fit the Tactical and the Service.

The XDSC would be a totally different animal. There is a TON of money put into bringing a conversion kit to market. And there are a bunch of variables in the XD and XDm line that make it very hard if not impossible to have ONE kit fit all models. So their best choice is to pick the BEST SELLING model and make a kit for that.

And while I'm very glad a .22 kit is coming out I would have hoped for a more inexpensive version.

I hope this doesn't fall through the cracks like Advantage Arms' .22 conversion project for the XD. I remember when there was a lot of hype about it coming out 2 Decembers ago.
