Past week or so I've been looking at Kimber , Springfield Ro compact and EMP. I haven't fondled any of them as of yet. Any of you guys have Good to bad experience with any ? I've been edgeing towards the EMP. Thoughts would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance.

EMPs are excellent. The RO has nice reviews too.

If you're not carrying it go full sized, I have a Dan Wesson Pointman 9 that I love.
You know I dislike you!!!!!!

I also hate the words "I have a Dan Wesson..." That there is the reason why I dislike you... I do not have one. :p

WHY???

MY TLE/RLII TFS 9mm was an EXCELLENT pistol, and my Kimber Desert Warrior had close to 25,000rds through it before trading it to a Sheriff's Deputy friend of mine who LOVES that pistol, I don't buy into the B.S about MIM and Kimber's are inherently bad, Heck, I've heard the same B.S. about XD's from 1911 and Glock fanboys but I still bought 4 XD series pistols in the last 2 months and couldn't be happier.

I've read about all the so called problems with the XDs 3.3 .45, but still bought one and in the last week have put close to 300rds down the pipe with ZERO issues. I even shot the thing with 2 fingers TRYING to make it limp wrist jam and it did not happen, don't believe every single thing you read on the net.

I had 2 Government Springfield 9mm's and a Kimber TLE/RL II TFS. They were all 3 pretty good guns, The number ONE thing on these pistols to be aware of is MAGAZINES!!! Not all magazines are equal in a 1911, and that is especially true in the 9mm's, some swear by Wilson's and those were the ones that gave me the most trouble, I used the factory Springfield mags and MEC-GAR 9rd mags with OUTSTANDING results, but your mileage may vary.

As a option, you may want to give the 3rd gen S&W autos a look while your looking for all metallic pistols. They are very nice shooters and can be bought for bargain prices. This 5906 is a PC version, but the standard guns are very reliable and good performers.

I'll come trash number properly. But it comes down to your paying for finish not quality control. If they run cool. But the worst odds out of the box for doing so. Their custom labeled guns never go in the custom shop.

Then you have the customers are normally emotionally invested in the purchase so I'll watch a guy clear half a dozen malfunction ask him later how he likes his number "great never had a problem with it"

Coarse shiny doesn't appeal to me.

Then name brands nighthawk Wilson and so on.

Each level you get what you pay for. IMO kimmber is a gun that needs a smith goever. The days of the 1990 hand built kimbers is long gone

Speaking in generalities of a company that has produced hundred of thousands of firearms, many different models/series over the course of decades doesn't offer much useful information. Are you saying every Kimber gun from rifles & pistols to pepper blasters need a "smith goever" (your spelling)?

I can tell you specificity the firearms below are those I own and use from Kimber have performed without fail or any modification by a gunsmith.

anecdotal. I'm saying I wouldn't buy one without a very knowledgeable 1911 guy taking it all the way down and inspecting it. Aka a second party quality control.

Shooting 500 rounds works too. But you just don't have a reasonable assurance before that on if it will work. They have the most issues on 1911forum. Some friends ceased being number dealers due to highest rate of unsatisfied customers. He sold over 200 when he made that decision.

My experience with Kimbers, the few I've seen on the range and the couple I've owned, a very limited data set for sure, have been they're well overpriced for what you get. They've had a feel of a company that cuts corners to save money rather than a true premium brand. And the Kimpro finish is horrible.

Other gun guys, my brother included, think very highly of them so they must give others a better impression than they give me.

There are quite a few good 1911's in 9mm out there. I own several and like them a lot.

Is there any reason you would not consider a Hi-Power instead of a 9mm 1911?

If so, AIM Surplus has some really sweet FN made Israeli Hi-Powers in stock. Way under any 9mm 1911 you are looking at.

The Hi-Power was also DESIGNED as a 9mm and runs very well. The 9mm 1911s are notoriously iffy feeders and finding mags is an issue to many.

I bought one years ago and hot-rodded it and it is one accurate 9mm.

If you like the 1911...chances are, you will also like the Hi-Power because they are very similar.
