Ugly Slide Contest - Springer Precision

Post up your ugly worn out XD slides, the one that looks like it has seen the most use and abuse will be the winner of a free slide refinished in CRC IonBond.

This is to announce and promote our new gun coating service. Here is a little info about the CRC finish:

CRC IonBond is from the family of products commonly know are DiamondBlack, which is a carbon based PVD application.

This involves the depositing of diamond-like carbon coatings via a vacuum, and results in a finish that will provide years of protection against wear while retaining a nice appearance.

This matte/satin black finish is essential for tactical pieces and is a result of the carbon treatment. This stuff is super tough, the CRC Ionbond finish is 1500-2000 HV. Typical hard chrome finishes are generally 1050 HV and melonite is in the 700 HV range. As you can see, the CRC Ionbond finish is .5 – 2.5 times harder than common “tough” finishes.

This is not a self lubricating product, but CRC Ionbond does have some characteristic that could make you think it is. The CRC Ionbond finish absorbs oil and releases it over time due to the unique characteristics. CRC Ionbond also reduces the friction coefficient on the coated parts. Steel on steel has a typical friction coefficient of .7; Steel on CRC has a typical friction coefficient of .25; CRC on CRC has a typical friction coefficient of less than .2. For the math challenged, that means CRC Ionbond finished parts have 3.5 times less friction than untreated steel, so it does make the parts a lot more “slippery” and does improve the performance of parts that wear on each other.

CRC Ionbond’s unique application process makes it a finish that does not chip, crack or peel and is 2 microns in thickness. If you combine it with a electrolysis nickel plating, you have a finish that is virtual impervious to corrosion also.

OK, enough of the technical stuff (I'll have more information on our website on that soon enough) I want to see pictures, so post them up!

Any pricing info for those who's slides still look nice and want to preserve the look and longevity while reducing friction.

Pricing will be on our website by Monday. It will be price competitive with hard chrome and "paint on" (ie. GunKote/DuraCoat) finishes, making the choice of finish coatings much simpler for folks.

As we gained approval "officially" to go forward with this on Thursday, we are still working on some of the finer details and will be posting more information soon, just keep an eye on our website.

A huge plus for us, is their facility is local to us and we will have no transportation issues or costs.

Based on the make up of IonBond and the samples, this finish is awesome. As Scott mentioned, it rivals hard chrome in both cost and durability, but it is black (=tacticool).

Lead time will vary, but 2-4 weeks should be fairly typical.

This will contest will run for 3 weeks, so hopefully we'll get some folks to post some photos, as I want someone who is very hard on finishes to get this coating.

Can this be applied over stainless steel, if so I have a old milspec that I've been working on and this could solve a few small problems.

Yes, we can do it on any standard steel or stainless.

Itchy,

Ugly is ugly, and some of the ugliest ones I've seen have been previously re-finished, so you are good to go.
