Fiance left me today **UPDATE** SHE CHEATED
So my fiance, whom I've been dating for 6 years left me today. This has to be the most painful thing to ever happen to me. Thing that gets me the most is that she pushed for the engagement. I wanted to wait until after I graduated college to get engaged; but I wanted to make her happy and bought her the ring. Then she wanted to get married while we were still in college; so I set a date and we completely planned the wedding. Then today I get this whole "I can't marry you because I don't love you enough and that wouldn't be fair to you" bull crap. So now I'm down $10,000 and six years of my life. Talk about a freaking punch in the stomach.
So though I'm pretty low, I guess I can say I am really lucky. She is now gone and I can move on and find someone who won't be selfish enough to hurt me so bad. And besides, there's a new cutie at work I can now talk to I'll end this thread with a question. How does one go about selling a Diamond engagement ring? It was appraised at $8,800. What real world price should I expect to sell it for? It really stinks to know I'm going to loose so much money on it and not to mention all the deposits on the wedding stuff.

Dude I am really sorry that has happened. I'm sure things will eventually look up for you.
About the ring, I would think an individual sale or if the place you bought it has a trade in program. Selling otherwise I have found has lost me lots of money. I really wish you the best and GO TALK WITH THE GIRL AT WORK, it will help take your mind off all this a bit. A new woman is always a new and exciting adventure. Good Luck!

Best you found out now than after marriage that she
'did not love you so much'. Shake it off and get on with your life. The worth of the diamond runs like this, about like the furniture business, they both have terrific markups. Say a furniture company or jewelry story is have a 50% off sale, they still have a 100% markup even at the sales off price. Not the best news on the rock, but you can figure 25% of the appraised value as the true value when you sale. Anything over that, well take it and go lick your wounds. A better idea, how about keeping it for the next Mrs. MasonXD40. She will never know that you just happened to have bought it in advance. It sure would cut your losses and make some very nice future lovely a great surprise. Best to the future, Ed |

That's crappy, I've had a few friends go through the same thing as of late.
Is there no way to return it to the jewler? Did she wear it?

Man im sorry to hear that. Well you can look it as either bad or in a good way. Maybe if she didnt say anything you guys would of gotten married and maybe of had some children before she told you how she really feels and how ****ty would that be. Well i hope everything goes ok for you and feel free to ask us on here for advice.

Yes it is BULL CRAP!
She has ripped out your heart. Some Range Therapy is in order! Good thing she decided to tell you now instead of after you were married and then when she would have divorced you she would get half your stuff. Go talk to that Woman at work! Play the Pity card!

Better now than later my friend!
Had you gotten married and had kids.... As for the ring. Describe it. What carat? What clarity? What color? Do you have any cut dimensions? Is it a princess cut...they are popular right now. Did the diamond come with a certificate? GIA is the golden standard. EGL grades a bit softer while the AGS grades harder, GIA is therefore the middle of the road standard. I am getting into brokering loose diamonds and know a bit about them although I am still no expert. I am not offering to buy it, just wanting to offer some advice. It probably would be best for you to just hang on to it like the previous poster stated. You bought it retail...you will only lose money if you sell. Jewelers are nothing more than pawn brokers...they just dress better! Don't look at it as 6 years wasted...look at it as simply a steady piece of ass. Kick the Bitch to the curb and forget about it. |
