learning to play drums -- any tips?
I'm in a "band" (a group of friends that rock out regularly for our own amusement and entertainment). I sing, and play the guitar. I can also play bass guitar (a feat which sadly enough, our bassist can't really claim -- he can memorize stuff though, so it works).
In any case, I just recently started trying to learn the drums so that that way our drummer (who can also sing and play the guitar can get some mic/guitar time). It would also keep me from having to try to sing stuff like The Cranberries -- a guy singing it just doesn't do it justice. Our drummer gave me some basic into lessons last night, but we shortly lost interest in learning and just jammed for a while. Soooo...any drummers here wanna give me some tips and hints that will make easier my drum learning experience?

I used to just listen to a CD while I was sitting at the drums, listen to the drums in the music and then play the song again and try to duplicate the sound with the drums while the song was going on. It just helped me to get slightly complicated beats down and compare my timing with the professionals.
