xd compact/sc
I am looking to buy an xd for self defense and as my concealed carry choice. I am wondering if the accuracy chng and ease of concealment between the two is large enough to make a difference in what I should choose. I am looking at the .40 b/c i think it offers the best balance with stopping power and mag size. thanks for the help.

If I remember right without looking it up, the compact and sc have the same grip length. With me, that is the big factor because that is the part that will print the worst. As far as accuracy, your ability to shoot a firearm will have far more affect on the shot than the gun will. Especially at self-defense distances, the barrel length is not going to make that big of a difference. If you at some point use it for a competition where you deal with some longer distances, then the barrel length will begin to have a greater effect.

Well, there is no "compact" .40, so I'm not sure what you are trying to compare. The service .40 (4" barrel) is next size up, and it has a longer grip than the .40 subcompact.
Pretty sure the compact .45 also has a longer grip than the subcompact .40/9mm, if you are comparing those.
Or maybe you are talking about comparing sub compacts using the extended 16 round mags, I dunno, question unclear.

An XD9sc on top of an XD45 Compact.......
Other comparisons between the two.....

Welcome to the forum hialti2d.
I'd go for the XD9sc, versatile and cheap to shoot.
But I'm partial to 9mm pistols..........

Thanks lowlife for those comparison pictures. I really thought the XD9SC was a lot smaller then my XD45C and was considering purchasing one for CC instead. I think that just sold me on keeping my 45 thanks.

I have both. the 45 compact is just about as easy to conceal as the 40 sub in most situations. I find them to be just about even when it comes to accuracy and recoil.

Well, in that case there's a significant difference in grip length between those two for sure.
I wouldn't even consider carrying my SC concealed IWB with the 16 round mag in (which would make grip same length as the 4" model).

Me too.
Matter of fact, it seems rather like magic that they both hold 10 rounds in mag, with the .45's being so much bigger.
Looking at specs on SA site, the .45 compact claims to be only .25" larger in overall height than the sub compacts. Somehow.
Sorry for my previous partial disinformation
