I'm sure many of you already write your rep, but for those of you who do not, now isn't a bad time to start. Here is some quick info for those who would like to. Some handy links to find out exactly who to write to.
This is a quick letter I just wrote to my rep, Mr. Thad McCotter. You can use it if you like. Just fill in the XXXXX's with the correct information.
Quote:
Dear XXXXXX,
I'm writing to you today, to request that you OPPOSE the bill H.R. 6257: Assault Weapons Ban, and any gun bans that may be set forth by President elect Barack Hussein Obama.
This bill serves to only help criminals. Taking away firearms from those who obtain them legally, and safely, is not a solution to stopping gun related crime. If anything, it gives criminals and those who wish to do harm to others the upper hand. Criminals do NOT obey gun laws.
Banning these types of firearms would do nothing but open the gates to taking away firearms from law abiding citizens. This is leading us down the exact same path seen by communist countries in the 30's and 40's.
Further more, this is a direct violation of our constitutional rights.
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
It is essential that we are armed not only for the sake of those who wish to do harm to us in our own homes, but also those who would threaten our way of life from abroad. This country was founded on our freedom, and this must not be infringed upon.
So, please vote against this bill. I can assure you I'll be looking at which way you have voted, and will be taking that into consideration the next time I vote.
thats not too bad.. i would like to see somthing mentioned about the spiraling economy, and how if it gets worse, crime will be even more on the rise, and law abiding citizens may need to defend themselves even more as criminals up their spree's.
Updated letter for a few typos, for those who wish to use it.

LOL, you don't really need to egg on McCotter, that dude is constantly on the rampage against government excess. He is one of the most sensible guys in Washington if you ask me. I wish he was my rep, and mine isn't all that bad.
