More AR

http://www.knifesite.com/browseprodu...and-Guard.HTML

I've asked this on ar15.com as well but many folks here also have AR15 fetishes so what the hell.

Anyone used this product? I would like to mount a Propoint PDP3 above the handguard on my A2 and have it co-witness with my iron sights. I've got one of those ultra-cheap gooseneck mounts that secures to the top of the A2 handle and then provides rails out over and above the handguard; the thing is cheap and never mounts in the same place twice, so my zero will change if I remove it (plus it looks damn hideous).

I am thinking about buying the Fobus M33 and only using half (I don't need rails on the bottom and I don't know if their molded rubber cover will increase the grip width or not).

Opinions?

it looks like a good product. its got rails, but it looks pretty stock and if you have the dust covers on it will look like a M4 hangaurd....a plus in my book. people can get nutty with the rails sometimes.

i've heard bad things about mounting optics on non floated handgaurds, even the rock solid ones like YHM...but i've never tried mounting optics there, so i'm going by hearsay. that's just what i've heard, with no experience to back it up, but i could see how mainting a zero on handgaurds held in place by a delta slip ring *might* be a problem.

in any case, they still look like great handgaurds IMHO.

Skip the M33 - it's an overpriced piece of plastic. One of my friends has one and it has alot of wobble in it. Bad enough that I wouldn't place a red dot on it. If you're going to mount optics on the handguard, go for the Surefire M73 or YHM handguard - those are designed to lock into place and not move.

Go with the YHM FF Carbine

+1 for the YHM FF Carbine rails.

Bravo Company USA is selling them for $90 each. You can't beat that price.

everyone sez the YHM is super solid....especialy for lights and vertical grips

i've still heard that because it's not a float system that its not the best platform for optics mounting.

One YHM problem

Para,
I do know one problem with the YHM FF Quad Rail. The lock nut used to hold it to the barrel can work lose and the rail will rotate in place. I didn't put any loctite on it when it was installed so that was my mistake. I didn't make that mistake again.
Are there other problems that you've heard about?

nope.....not any other ones.

seems weird that they would move at all if they fit in so tight, but i guess they can actualy shift and even a tiny ammount would mean a hell of a lot on any optics.

never thought about loctite on handgaurds

im going to locktite that RRA Dominator when i get it
