SA mil spec 1911 finish question/advice
i love my mil spec in parkerized finish (at least how it shoots), but it's a bit drab (dull blued matte finish). any suggestions on how to "smooth" and/or "shine" it up? i tried some blue wonder armadillo on the slide only, and it actually improved the appearance (in my opinion), but did not give it as smooth a look as i'd like, and is a pain in the but to work with. i'd like to (1) darken it up a bit and/or (2) shine it up a bit. any ideas?

You could send it off for a grade-A polish and blue job.

well, i was thinking more of something cheaper and do-it-yourself, but i'm not dead-set against that. any suggestions as to who'd do a good and somewhat affordable job?

Nothing from personal experience. Your best bet is to just price around for the refinish, and stay with the better-known outfits. I have seen some atrocities committed on good firearms by 'refinishing' them.
Ask around at your local range and see if anybody has had one reblued locally... one advantage to having it done locally (assuming good references) is that the guy will have to look you in the eye when its all said & done. I'd expect to drop about a C-note for a good reblue, these days.
