I would have to say they were Successful Liberal Extremist. Think about it, they gave their own country the finger and pulled the rug out from under their feet!
They were liberators! We are liberators!
We are a Liberal and Liberating country governed by a conservative republican President.

Todays meaning seems to come from anybody not a conservative. Our founding fathers all agreed to leave the british government behind to form there own. So in my mind that move makes them liberal. Not conforming to the basic standard of the time.

with all the things today like: womans rights, gun control, if more power should be givin to the states or the federal government, affirmative action, civil rights

so of all the issues we vote on in TODAYS world how do you think they would vote and what party TODAY do you think they would be. not the parties and their values back then but our current parties and their values.

They were not "giving the finger to their country" they were born in their own. They were Colonialists rule by a tyrant thousands of miles away. If you really want to know their views and what they were giving the finger to read this:
