Well that just shows us what is going on with our country. NO respect for anyone or anything. Just go out side and see some of the dumb@$$. Hats on sideways, sun glasses, ipods, CEL PHONES ( I hate cel phones). My dad taught me how to act outside, if I acted anything like that it would have been a slap on the back of my head. I grew up calling all adults Mr. and Mrs. I never would have thought to call my parents friends by there first name. Still today I call my parents friends Mr. and Mrs. You will not see one kid call you Mr. or Mrs. Times have changed.

What I don't get is the guys who stand and remove their covers for Lee Greenwood's "God Bless The USA". Not an anthem...
Glad to hear about military being able to salute when not in uniform. I will be doing this in the future.
(Yes there are atheists in foxholes, and they are proud americans too!)

Remove your headgear or I will talk to you about it after the anthem has concluded.

After spending almost 26 years flying around the world in single seat fighters, including 200 missions in OEF/OIF, I can't begin describe what the flag means to me. A life spent defending it and the ideals we hold true as Americans has changed me forever.

When thousands of miles from the U.S. in some foreign land and seeing the flag flying on our base; it represents home, family, friends, and everything we believe in as Americans. Flying out of some rocky, dusty base, sleeping behind multiple sand bags in a tent with things happening making you wonder if this could be your last day ... those things change you.

I appreciate America and the flag for all the things it stands for. For all the people that don't; they haven't had to fight for it. Because of that, I think they take it for granted. They just don't "get it". I'm reminded of the words, "Forgive them Father. They know not what they do".

As far as this now retired veteran is concerned, taking your hat off, putting your hand over your heart, and being quiet or singing is certainly not asking too much. For me ... I prefer to salute.

I have never posted a topic that had so many replies in so short a time. I can see that it means a lot you all of you to show what the flag and your anthem means to you personally. Bravo to all of you. God to see I wasnt wrong in taking my hat off for my anthem!
