Don't wear hats often, but if I did it would be off. I was taught to have my hand over my heart for the pledge, but not for the anthem. Most of all I was taught to shut my trap, pay attention and give respect.

+1 and now that they have changed the flag code us old /ex military people and salute the flag if we would like.

If for some reason I didn't stand and take my hat off and place my hand over my hart my long dead granddad would come up and slap the back of my head just like he did one before when I was a young boy.

I've noticed more and more people wearing hats in inappropriate situations recently. I was at a funeral service and there were four men of varying ages wearing various hats. WTF?

I attend WVU Football and Basketball games as a season ticket holder and there are some folks, without fail, that think it is okay to socialize, leave hats on, and otherwise ignore what is going on around them when the National Anthem is played. I make it a point to "remind" these @$$HOLES to show some respect for their country and for the people who have made sacrifices so that they can enjoy the freedoms that they so obviously take for granted!

It makes my blood boil every time this topic comes up and every time I see someone behaving so disrespectfully!

Me too! People like that should be sent packing..........

My quip is the issue over the Pledge of Allegiance. Any true American would know that the "under God" was added in 1954, as a political measure during the Cold War to further seperate from the Communist heathens. Nothing patriotic about it.
