Amen, its a big deal to me too. If you don't have that much respect for your country and its flag, they maybe you should leave.

By all means hats off. I've been to many NASCAR races and I'd say 99.9% of the people there must agree. I've seen those that don't be confronted by other people...we rednecks take this seriously

The "flag code" is yet another piece of American tradition that is now no longer taught in civics classes or anywhere else in school but darn well should be!! I guess it is hard to expect anyone to teach this stuff when people are busy trying to remove God from the Pledge of Allegiance!

Does anyone remember when you went to a ball game and the announcer had to remind people to do so?....

My father taught me as far back as I can remember and my "public" grade schools required it. We had a BIG American flag in each class room and we said GOD during our pledge.

Inspire young people when you can as their fathers are delinquent.

Absolutely - Hats off and hand over heart, for both men AND women. Most women don't wear hats, but if they do and insist their men folk remove their hats, then they should be equally respectful.

Hats off and standing to the direction of which the flag is flying. But your hand doesn't have to be over your heart. Military don't put their hands over their heart. Hands over the heart is a choice. If you live in a different country... say like England... I would do the same thing for respect of the nation that I am living under. I take it back.... hand over the heart. I was wrong. Didn't know its a public law. Here is the law quote for a law school US CODE: Title 36,301. National anthem.

Hats off, standing at attention, and I render a salute. U.S. Army retired. You do not need to put your hand over except for the pledge of alligence. But as patriotism is no longer taught and is considered racist by some, our younger generation is totally clueless. I also stand and render a salute to the flag as it passes by while others continue to sit.
