1 in 3 Atlanta Police Academy graduates have a criminal record

1 in 3 ATL police academy grads have criminal records | ajc.com

Fox in the hen house??? Anyone?

Some of the charges are small, but that doesn't seem to be the exception to the rule.

Stay safe Atlanta members!

That's not too surprising. I don't live in Atlanta any more but used to for many years. I wouldn't do that job in this town for three times what they pay. I'm sure they're having a lot of trouble getting anyone to sign on. I'm not trying to excuse this practice at all, BTW. Just looking at the flipside

I will agree that finding a quality officer is going to be difficult, but creating a hypocritical situation seems to undermine everything that law enforcement is about.

Agreed, but reality reigns here. It's either a lack of applicants or it's cronyism. I'm just glad I no longer have to worry about it on a day by day basis.

well thats one way for the violent felons to get a CCW if they are denied. Classic game of if i cant beat them, join them.

lots of cops i know were HORRIBLE kids, but they caught onto the if ya cant beat them join them thing before they were old enough for a record. They saw the power, said hmmm i get to carry a gun, i get to boss folks around, i am virtually above reproach, and i get paid for it, and a pension.

deal!

granted cops dont make out like bandits but they do all right in many communities.

some of the cops i know say many cops woudl work for half, just for the power trip. If the city, county or state cut pay in half, they ego would not allow them to quit, they need the power. Plus many of the folks might know the cop mind and the criminal mind score almost the same on psych tests, its a very thing line.
How thin, in this case, one in the same.

Read the Article...they aren't hiring any Felons, Domestic convicts, etc...people who are denied firearm ownership by laws :P

I agree that it's sad, but I also believe in mistakes in the past. I don't like police...I feel they're glorified paper pushers, and many (too many) are on a power trip because they have no power. But, it's a job that needs to be done, and without all the details I gotta hope that they took the individual's details into account as they say they do. Still don't like it, but I don't have the details past the summary of the applications the article gave.

Do I sense bitterness?

I heard about this story on the Boortz radio show...APD has had their problems and could be setting themselves up for more.
