RITA CAT 5 & EXPECTED TO GROW

I live in austin and our apt. complex has issued warnings to remove all items from patios, get together a bug-out bag, and listen to radio, and t.v for updates. It also mentions having a family plan and knowing evac routes.B/C of over 70 MPH winds.

I doubt it will get that bad, but when it rains here it floods, and it hasn't rained in a long time. Tornados are also a big threat. We are taking in family from houston, and almost everyone I know's house is full of Houstonians, their pets and all of there worldly possesions.

This is going to be crazy.

Not to mention, this weekend is ACL (austin City Limits) A gigantic outdoor festival that brings thousands here, ther are no hotels, or anywhere to stay for "evacuees". they are opening up malls to take people in. Please keep all of Texas in your prayers.

OEFM and everyone else from houston I hope you are gone by now, And may your houses still be there when you get back.

I'm in the "Golden Triangle" the authorities have ordered evacuation of the low lying areas along the coast. We aren't expecting a direct hit but, we are on the East side of the storm's center that is the wettest and windiest. The East side is also the side the most tornadoes are spawned on.

Man, something is up with the weather. Things seem to be taking a turn for the worse. I'm not one of those guys who think Judgement Day is coming soon or nething but alot of bad things seem to have been happening lately, and in a short period of time. Makes me wonder. I hope all you guys in Texas ride this one out safely.

The latest predictions I saw on the Weather channel have this thing going directly over Waco. Hopefully it will be somewhat settled down by then but I've heard that they're expecting winds up to 100mph and lots of rain. Last big hurricane Houston got that I can remember is Alicia. I lived 1.5 hours north of Houston at that time and our town flooded.

My mother-in-law is headed to our house from Houston as we speak.

Weaker, not stronger. Although cat4 is strong enough, for sure.

+1

Plus they said that the Pecan Street Festival is still going to be held. After Katrina, I cannot believe these folks are going to take the risk. All we need is 10's of thousands of folks out and about.

Wonder what Shoal Creek is gonna look like?

I will be taking down my more insecure ham radio antennae tomorrow afternoon. No need to have them flapping around the neighborhood.
