Got fired today

For the very first time in my life I was fired today. Long story short, I work in the fitness industry and one of the clubs I work at recently changed hands. The new owner has a certain "look" that he wants fo his employees and staff. I don't fit the look. Actually, I don't want to work for someone so shallow anyhow but I sure didn't need to lose that income right now.

You'll find something better. The same thing that was told to me a couple months ago, it may not feel like it now but you will. Make lemonade out of the lemons.

Dude, you need to file discriminatory practice. If he actually said that to you he is in deep ****. American Eagle, Hollister, etc. get away with **** like that because they hire other people to work the backrooms.

BTW: When god gives you lemons... YOU FIND A NEW GOD.

Sounds like discrimination to me. Get a lawyer, and OWN that company. Not a recommendation, just something I would probably do. Last I heard, no one can be fired for the way they "look". Or am I wrong?

Texas is an at will state so you can be fired for having a bad haircut. As the old saying goes, when one door closes another opens. I am not too worried yet but it definitely sucks.

I am a little biased of course (cause we're talking about me!) but I spend about $3-5,000 a year on continuing ed so that I can stay at the top of the pile and my "look" has absolutely no bearing on my ability to communicate with clients, nor does it have any bearing on my ability to retain the clients. Too bad for him! For the curious among you I am personally a powerlifter and I am a big guy. I do NOT train clients that way however. I specialze in clients with back probs ie disk bulge, spondylolysis, etc. I also work with college athletes. This summer I worked with 2 college football players (div. 3) and they both really progressed well and I am proud of them.

I guess the bottom line is that I know that I am very good at what I do and I will make up for the lost business pretty quickly.

Dunno about the PARTICULAR wording of the laws in Texas, but Ohio (my location) is also an "at-will" state. HOWEVER.....if they actually TELL you that you are being fired for a particular reason, it may indeed be actionable. A former girlfriend managed to get a LARGE settlement from a company that fired her because she didn't attend a voluntary after-work potluck dinner.

I always laugh a little when I hear people talk about filing lawsuits for things like this. There are a lot of companies that have dress and grooming codes and they get rid of people all the time for violations of those rules. Lawsuits over things like this are a waste of everyone's time and there's a good chance you'll come out worse financially than when you started.

Why would you want to work for a company that didn't want you there anyway?
