+1 don't blame the officers! The mistake was further up. Bad intel happens far too often! The bad thing here is not the medals, is why the officers hit nothing. Not wanting someone to get hurt, but why they missed is an issue! The family should be comp'd.. no question.

If the Chief wanted to show some kind of gratitude to the Officers on the SWAT team for not backing down during the gunfight.....he could do so in a closed meeting environment and not present any actual metals but rather just speak to them......

"Hey guys, I know the Investigators F'k-up the intel up and made you hit the wrong house....resulting in a shootout with an innocent civilian.....but I'm proud you guys didn't run away scared when the bullets started flying....."

Making a public specticle of it is in poor taste in light of what happened.....

Agreed, it wasn't SWATs F up but the higher ups should take resposniblity for the mistake, not rub sh*t on the publics face.

whomever provided the 'intel' for, and ok'd the raid should have to pay for the damages to the home.

These are your new uniforms, but don't use the pockets unelss we cannot tell you are using them.

The gist of military intelligence, and pretty much any other government program I can think of.

This kind of reminds of me another scenario. I've seen some less than mature adults on some forums hate on kids because their parents are able to give them more than others. However, what is the kid supposed to do? Say no, no don't give me this. It kind of applies here, too. SWAT members were told they'd be given medals or honors, they probably looked at each other in disbelief but put their hands out. I definitely think someone needs to make nice with the family though. I'd be more than pissed, my lawyer would have fun with them if they didn't want to make right with my family and myself.

I guess they deserve awards for holding back, or more range time, for not killing the owner after he opened up on them.
