OMG I don't know what to say, thats kinda funny but at the same time a pretty serious situation. When I got to the part where you realized you where naked I couldn't stop laughing thinking about the look on the guys face. Personally I would be writing a letter to Cox about not getting a phone call letting you know some wack job was going to be tearing stuff up at your house. I say write a letter because I have worked in customer service before and when you call to complain about anything it goes no where, but when you write a letter they think "Oh man this person was so POed at the situation that they took time to write a letter and spend .41 cents (or whatever it is now) on a stamp to send it to us." Usually they will send a follow up letter at the very least appolagizing and may offer you some sort of discount or cupon or something, and MOST of the time, (if its a valid complaint and not someone whinning about something stupid) something will actually be done or someones A$$ will be on the line.

Oh yes, I'm sure that quite often the cable guys run into naked, armed, guys with flashlights. I think there is a chapter in the handbook on how to deal with it.

"If situation "C" occurs, you should:
A. Stay calm and explain what you are doing.
B. Point to the midsection and laugh.
C. Point your drill at the homeowner and yell "BANG" .
D. Jump out and chant "Booga Booga Booga"
E. Both "B" and "C"

You wouldn't be pulling that kind of crap if it was cold.

Wow. He really should've called. Like others here, I can understand that he'd maybe want to work those hours, but really, CALL AHEAD! Sounds like you handled it well. I'll bet they call ahead next time though!

That is what I'm saying. Can you see the headline?

A few questions.

1. Was the guy in your yard working on your stuff or was he next to your house, not on your property and working on COX company equipment?

2. Was it a company truck?

3. You said he claimed to be "working on a tower". Is there a cell phone tower or similar next to your property?

I ask because back in 2000-2001 I worked as a communications tech for Sioux Falls Tower and Communications on cell phone towers all over the country. Some of the towers were adjacent to people's houses and we did work from 10pm to 6am. The reason is that is the time of the day with the lowest activity and service work will cause the least disturbance to the customer. Cell phone companies can lose tens of thousands of dollars an hour if service is done during peak usage. Off peak (10pm-6am) that drops considerably.

If he was on your property, they should have given you notice via phone call or letter. If he was not on your property, no notice is needed and you had no business approaching him. A call to the police would have been sufficient.
