CCW and swimming....hrm...
need some input from our CCW members.
Later today i'm supposed to go to this swimming hole with some friends. Its pretty far up this canyon, no phones, no services, all dirt roads etc. Its safe to say i'll be carrying. (already checked its legal, not a national park etc.) So...what to do when it comes time to swim....its not so much that i'm worried about freaking out my friends, its that i'm not sure i'm comfortable leaving it on the bank or something, but i don't wanna leave it in the car because i want to have it accesible. any ideas?

car is the best place though since you can lock it up..
your between a rock and a hard place.. when i go 4x4... i strap it to my hip.. but if theres water involved.. i leave my gun next to my wallet locked in the center console.. so if i need to get my wallet.. my gun is close to it.. as for animals.. you can do something to distract them while you get your gun.. just dont go to far from it

IMHO i would leave it in the car if it was me. At least you will have it on the drive there and back. I wouldnt want to chance someone coming up and having easy access to my gun whether it was a friend or a stranger. Aside from that you could ziplock baggie and duct tape it to your chest.

its a tough call...(you know there has been the question on the board as to wether an XD will fire under water, so just IWB it in your swimm suit lol)
your legaly safest option is to leave it in the car, if you have a bag with you, you could put it in the bag, luggage lock on the bag, and bike lock the bag to a tree. that way it would be safe from other people getting easy access, and it would allow you to have it with you on the walk to and from the swimming hole. as for not uppsetting friends who dont know you carry, when you take your shirt off keep your holster facing away from them, and then take your shirt and put it over the gun and then draw it from the holster (this will cause the shrit to cover it, and if you arent drawing to much attention to yoruself no one will notice) then just keep it folded in the shirt and put it in your bag.

Just carry it gangsta style in the front waist band. You will have it easily accessible and you will get all these akward loks from your buddies.

Why would you need a gun while swimming in the water?
IMO it's plain silly. First, you won't feel comfy swimming, second, the weight of the fully loaded gun will be a problem and a safety concern (diffculty staying on the surface, especially if non-sea water), third, it's pretty much innefective in the watter (up to 1m or so killing distance) and shooting someone outside the water while you still being IN the water is..well..try it and let me know how it went. |
