Thumbs up US Marines Could Use a Little Help...

From Troy Watson, Korean War Vet, Marine:

Well, you can now feel certain that Iraq is secure - MARINES NEED CD's/BOOKS!!!!

Col John Folsom has a request for books and CD’s for his Marines in Iraq.

The US Post Office now has a larger flat rate carton, that costs $10.95, no weight limit, if the address is an APO or FPO. This carton is free at the Post Office. You must fill out a customs form.

Send the Colonel’s Marines some books.

Greetings, All!

I am now on active duty again and have deployed to Iraq for the second time. I am assigned to 1st Marine Logistics Group as the Camp Commandant of Camp Al Taqaddum. "TQ" is just west of Baghdad on the northeast corner of Lake Habbaniya. It is a large sprawling base that is home of several thousand Marines, Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen.

We have a modest library on the camp and they are in need of more books. The library staff really wants copies of the Commandant's Reading List
and other books and DVDs that would be of interest to young men and women 18-30. College prep books would also be welcomed.

DVD's/CD's/Books may be sent to:

Sabine Glascoe
KBR/MWR (B6)
APO AE 09381

Sabine's e-mail is:
sabine.glascoe@kbr.com

Your support is appreciated. Thank you.

Semper Fidelis!

John D. Folsom
Colonel, United States Marine Corps, Reserve
Al Taqaddum, Iraq

Letting people (who would care to donate) know that the Marines would welcome some recreational materials (DVDs, CDs, books), via the posted information. Was the original post not clear enough?

I also took this as a statement that the Marines were too busy sitting on their ass to fight the war and needed books and CDs to pass the time. It doesn't come across very well.

I posted the letter as I received it from a Korean War vet, an old jarhead. He would never insult the Corps. Sorry things were taken the wrong way... was not my intent. When I read it, I took it as a sign of US success, and our guys were getting some R&R downtime.

I have about 100 books I could send, sadly none would likely come close to the criteria asked for. I might send them anyway. Thanks for the heads up
