Anyone have a damascus knife?

I might buy one, anyone else already have one? How do you like it?

I spent Thursday-Monday in North Carolina for a family reunion. One of my uncles owns Stoney Creek Forge, where he makes knives and wrought iron stuff by hand. I'm thinking about buying one of the damascus steel knives. They look awesome, and they're supposed to stay sharp longer than store-bought knives.

Other items I like pictured on the site are the copper rose, the railroad spike knife (made from a single railroad spike), and the knives made from crane cables (made from a single length of cable). There's a lot of skill involved in this stuff, he was he would spend about 30 hours on a single folding knife!

I'm not trying to advertise or anything, I just think this stuff is awesome.

I just got accepted to a new job. I told myself beforehand that, if I got the job, I'd buy myself a new watch. I'm thinking of getting the knife instead. As soon as I get my leave payout and final check, I'm pretty sure I'll be placing an order for one. They are pricey, but hell, it's slightly more useful than a watch!

I've got a traditional fixed blade Damascus steel hunting/camp knife, and a Puma brand folding Damascus steel. The fixed blade I picked up in the Black Hills (SD) from a knife maker's booth during the Independence Day celebrations in Custer... full tang, stag handle, horn pommel, all hand crafted and it cost plenty... nearly $300. I use it all the time and it has not lost its edge. I just got the Puma a couple months ago, and haven't used it enough to make any judgment.

As a side note, while in Custer I also picked up a fixed blade made from saw mill blade steel (the knife maker's son hunts down old saw blades on farms in the upper Mid-West), and handle made from reclaimed oak from a barn rafter. That high carbon steel takes an incredibly sharp edge... I could literally shave with that thing.
