Picked up my Brand New iPhone 3G yesterday morning. We are dumbasses so we camped out for 8 hours from midnight to 8am. There were 5 people ahead of me and my two buddies. The guy in the front of the line had been there since 4pm Thursday. By about 6am there were over 60 people in line. We were greeted by news channel three at about 6am and about 7am the ATT staff brought starbucks and donuts for us. I was among the first group let in the store and had my iphone within 5 minutes. The Apple server actually crashed because of overflow of activations and was sent home with non activated iPhone in hand. I ended up being able to activate at about 1pm after the server came back up. The process was the same as the first go round with the iPhone 2G. I would have waited all over again. The device with the new app store is amazing. Let me know if you have any questions.

As the resident Luddite, I can honestly say I don't care about this new phone and frankly I don't get it. I use my phone to talk on, I don't even pay the extra for a data plan so I can use e-mail on it. Being a Realtor, I might should, but I am not busy enough right now to warrant it. I don't need GPS, I have a map, I don't need to play music on my phone, I have the radio, and I sure don't need to play any games.

Like I said, I don't get it.

They paid my dad 25 dollars an hr to pull a 12 hr security detail over at the Hulen mall for the new Iphone unveiling. He said people had been camped outside the mall since yesterday waiting to get in and get a new phone.

People are nuts when it comes to this stuff. Hell when the PS2 came out there was someone gunned down in a parking lot for his out in Cali. People go nuts for technology and have to have the latest and Greatest.

I own a 2000 Jeep Cherokee, The base model Verizon phone which on it's own has too much crap for me just a few years ago I was still using the old Nokia Brick phone (60something hundred) and it was the best phone I ever had. My bike an 07 KLR was the last year in a 20 year design run starting in 1987.

I guess I'll never understand.

I just did the direct fulfilment order.
I should have the phone in a few days.
The store was out of them.

I've been using an LG CU500 for the last couple years.
It does everything I want, but I wanted a phone I could surf the net on.
I'm limited to those crappy mobile sites with the LG.

I have a few questions for those of you in the know......
1. It it going to be worth the $70 warranty crap or should I pass on it?
I don't usually buy protection plans on anything.
2. I make my own ring tones. I edit the songs I want to make them, put them on the SD card, and wallah, there they are.
Will I not be able to make my own ring tones with the iphone?
3. Can I put one of those clear covers on the iphone to keep it from getting scratched up?
4. Will be able to put pics on the iphone that are on the SD card of my LG?

I think I'm going to like the iphone, but I'm not 100% sure about it.
I guess I'll have my 30 days to figure it out..

I got one yesterday. Waited in line a couple of hours. Best investment I have made in a long time. The iPhone 3G is incredible and easily miles better than any Blackberry or Windows Mobile phone I have owned (and there have been many).

It has no competition. It easily and simply integrates your life.

Basically techonology isn't for some people. I love the iPhone because I never need anything else. When I'm out I have a phonebook, map, movie times, and anything else I could possibly ever need. iPhone is by far way better than any other "touch" screen phones put out by any company. If you don't like it fine. But don't knock others because they waited in line. I did. Proud of it. I waited for Halo 2 and Halo 3 too. It doesn't hurt anyone or anything. People are just excited about stuff.

You're proud of you're phone, and of waiting in line? I can't relate to that at all. I'm proud of my kids. Proud of my achievements. Proud of my financial security. Just can't catch on to the waiting in line thing. Must be generational.

First, let me welcome you jr c6! Forgive the idiot who put you down on your post. There are way to many of them here, but there are also a lot of great folks here to help you in any what they can!

I too waited for about 2 hours for my iphone. By the way it's my first cell phone in two years. I was forced to carry a cell phone long before many of the people on this board were born. We called them bricks, because thats what they looked and felt like.

The operating system in the new 3G is light years ahead of their competition. No, I don't like the key board, but I'm a lousey typest so I'm sure I'll get use to it.

Anyway, congrats on your purchase and welcome to XDTalk!
