There will be unlocked 3g iphones in the near future. The price point will be higher because it wont be subsidized thought. Plus it wont be 3g data compatible. 2G iphones are going for as low as $150 on craiglist etc. It is very simple to jailbreak and unlock to your carrier and data and wifi will still work great. I have ATT so am not concerned otherwise.

Eh, I'd love to play with one for a few days, but I question whether an iPhone could survive my 'active lifestyle'...

Plus, I like phones you can toss in a pocket... i wouldn't toss an iphone anywhere

I'll be in line at 5 AM to get mine. I've been waiting for a year. My wife has an original and I love it.

I loaded up the new 2.0 software on my old iPhone, and I love it! It feels like I have a new phone, this adds so much functionality even without 3g and GPS. By the way, the 2.0 software has already been unlocked, so it can be used with and carrier, but AT&T still won't let new phones be sold without a contract.

I picked up a used iPhone a little over a month ago. I succumbed to the hype and wanted to see it for myself. I had been using a Treo 650 for over 3 years.. It has it's good points and bad points. WiFi and the browser is good. Keyboard, lack of customization options as far as the UI and notifications, and the crappiest mail app ever is bad. It's still a tossup. I could do almost everything the iPhone can do on my Treo and more (like email attachments from an SD card I took out of my PC, DUN, and an awesome mail app). But the screen is nice on the iPhone and it fits in my pocket better. And that browser rocks! The treo browser is dismal and slow.

I could live with the crappy keyboard if someone came out with a decent mail app that can handle multiple accounts efficiently.

With all that said, I have no intentions of upgrading. Especially since I'm still on my Treo's $20 unlimited data plan! The ATT 3G network sucks here in PHX. The Lucent equipment they use is garbage. I know this because I used to install them for ATT...

so i got up early today, figuring the new software update for the phone would be out, given that itunes updated and the app store is browse-able...no luck through itunes, but i did find (and install) a legitimate iphone software update here:

Ok, iPhone Users, We Are Ready To Roll With 2.0

mac users...download and unzip the file. then, go in to itunes with your phone connected, hold "option" and click "check for updates" (or whatever...can't remember exactly). browse to the newly downloaded file, and bob's your uncle!

windows...same deal, except "option" = "ctrl+shift"

this is the real software pack from apple...they just haven't gotten it to d/l through itunes yet. and just so you all know, 2.0 has already been jailbroken

All about the Blackberry Bold for me.
I need a communication device, email #1 use.
Went back and forth between iPhones and BBerries, for me the BB slays the iPhone although the UI rocks.
Need things like copy and paste, decent attachment management in email.
Google maps rock on BBerry.
Getting my babysitter a 3G, me.com account, etc.

iPhones are way overrated. I have the best phone on the market and its a year old already. My phone has 3G which the iPhone is just getting, expandable memory which I think the new one still doesn't have and when people send me pictures or MMS I get it directly on my phone. iPhone users have to go to a website. Plus I have touch screen, PTT, a full qwerty keyboard and nice size display.

Was anyone nutty enough to sleep outside the AT&T store last night just to get the iphone today?
