back in the 1990's

when I was in college, back in the early 90's, the cops at my college, which is by the way part of the PA State Higher Ed. System (a state-run school), just got ordered to carry then...

and to be campus cops they had to go to Police Academy (even when they weren't packing heat)

My daughter goes to a PA SSHE school way up in the mountains. A lot of kids there hunt so the campus cops are pretty cool about students bringing their hunting rifles to school. I think they have to keep them at the station but still way cooler than these Princeton whack jobs.

I can't believe I got away with keeping a 12 ga. in my dorm room. Never really thought about it being against any rules, just kept it out of sight, didn't show it off, don't ask, don't tell I guess. Ofcourse that was back when dinosaurs roamed in the '70's.

We did the same in the mid 80s at Texas Tech. We kept our duck guns in the dorm...cleaned them with the door open and nobody said "boo." I believe it was technically against the law but others did the same. Carried them down the stairs and through the parking lot in front of everyone in soft zipper cases. Two guys with cased 12 gauge semiautos and a bag of duck decoys. Never got stopped once.

We even plucked ducks and geese in the back parking lot. Not popular with the groundspeople or girls wondering why there are feathers floating al over the place..but hey...we did it.

Today...they'd probably arrest someone on that campus for drawing a picture of a gun...who knows?

I don't recall having guns in the dorm, but we did have archery shoots down the hallways.
