Is Princeton a public school? I thought only government entities could employ police? Private entities can contract with government entities to employ police under their umbrella or they can hire security guards.

Or am I making this all up?

I just recently, in the past 2 years, graduated from a small, southern Baptist University found within a slum of a city. We had REAL police officers who all carried. Just seems to make sense and our entire campus loved them!

Princeton is a private university, as are all the Ivy League institutions. My kids would never go there 1. because they don't have the grades, and 2. because Dad doesn't have $50 or $60 grand per year to send them to hobnob with the other wealthy parent's kids.

I did use their library when I was going weekends for an MBA to study, all that carved oak around seemed to make be smarter

I don't know exactly how Stanford University does it, but they pay the $100 grand to send recruits through the County Sheriff Academy, and when they graduate, they become Sheriffs Deputies, but work for Stanford University on their payroll. And they carry .40 Sigs like our Sheriffs carry here.

Fast,

On a lot of campuses were the campus is located in and is part of the town, the campus police are the police. They have the same arrest powers and enforce traffic violations.

I don't see what the problem is. If anything happens then the smart liberal kids will get killed.

Meh...I'd skip the Ivy League colleges altogehter anyways.

I have worked for a few Ivy League alumni and was not overly impressed with their business practices or employee handling skills.

Then, you look at the mess that the Ivy League grads that run Congress have gotten us into in the past 30-40 years and I think money is better spent in a private or public state college or university.

Dubya, Kerry, Kenedy and Obama all went to Ivy League colleges...do they seem all that bright to you? Many times, all one needs is alot of dough to get into an Ivy League college...not alot of brains.

Mostly I just dodged them writing parking tickets way back then.

I don't know, but in a lot of places the government entity contracts the service. At the hospital my wife worked at, they had a contract with the city government to provide police officers - they worked at the hospital, they didn't leave the grounds, but they could write tickets on campus and wore "hospital" police uniforms (until a fancy dancy contractor told them it would be cheaper to have "security guards") but they were "real" cops.
