It's pretty retarded if you ask me. If you were given a BULLET PROOF vest for someone might SHOOT at you, how come you're not allowed to carry gun for that exact same reason?

When I started at Syracuse University the public safety officers didn't carry. They changed some policies and they are all trained peace officers and can choose to carry if they wish. As far as I know they all carry.

If they let Obama graduate....and then show further proof of thier ignorance by not allowing police (or students I assume) from carrying...then they deserve to have everyone leave their school.

Sorry, but as far as I am concerned, campus security is not cops (same with the animal cops or metro park cops). They can act as the eyes and ears of the campus safety, but they need to leave the real police work to the real cops.

When is the last time you were on a college campus.

I go to a small university by all standards but our campus police are police...not security.

They carry guns, they are POST certified, they have their own department (however inept it may be), and they are sworn peace officers of the state of Nevada.

I think it's the same, almost universally now.

If you noticed in the article they don't even refer to them as police, rather they are "public safety officers". I get the feeling that while they are charging outrageous tuition, at the same time they are going on the cheap on security services and not paying the wages expected for a qualified police officer. Hand them a badge and orange belt like the "school boy patrol" we had in elementary school and call them "public safety officers".

I agree with robinsre, every campus I've been to has sworn police officers for security. They may be half ass, but they are still real cops.
