What a derelict. People like him give me a bad name.
And this, folks, is why you don't drink and carry. Suddenly you become super cop and decide to rid the world of its ills. Then, you sober up in jail and realize that you can never own a firearm again, once you get out of prison.

He had three beers in about three and a half hours. Liquor was hardly a factor.
He got involved in what he believed was a driver who had struck someone and was attempting to leave the scene. A driver striking a tree and then backing up would lead most reasonable people to believe the driver was attempting to leave the scene. What was the driver doing, hitting a tree as part of their parrallel parking routine? The bystanders and the press are leaving this guy to twist in the wind. Read the article again more carefully. Every inference is made and reported in a way to make this guy look like a criminal. Even the posts here want to see this guy lynched. The bottom line take away from these types of incidents is (1) don't get involved if your life or the life of a family member is not in danger. No matter how you slice it, you will always come off looking like the bad guy and whatever good you think you might do will not be perceived as having done anyone any good; and (2) never tell the police you've had a drink, if it was hours ago, days ago, whatever, you will always be painted as impaired. Don't get me wrong. I'm not advocating using a gun in the way this guy did, even if the facts were as he says he believed. What I am saying is that the guy says he believed the driver struck someone (which the driver may have -- just not directly enough to cause injury), was trying to flee, and in the process of fleeing placed additional lives in danger. The bystanders expectedly turned against him. They saw a gun, freaked out, and their statements to police not surprisingly reflect that. The press then has its usual field day with it all. Even pro gun folks such as those here see it all in the same light the press wants them to. Something to think about.

As said above, if the driver really was near to running someone over, deadly force would be authorized.

Having not seen it in person, who knows if he acted properly or not.
But a car driving through a crowded park could surely cause more damage than someone that just pointed a gun. And, there are way too many factors involved to know if the beer had ANY effect on his behavior. Factors like; what kind of beer how big were the beers does the guy normally drink said beer what did he have to eat etc. etc. etc. If he BA was too high his permit is gone. But if a 200 guy who normally drinks 3 12 oz coors beers per night, has 3 over 3 hours he is not going to be impaired, period. (this is not opinion) Being 25 years old is likely the largest factor in this case. (this is opinion) The funny part is, had the guy in the car been left alone by all the bystanders and then run over folks, a lot of people would be whining about the fact that no one had the guts to try and stop him.
