On this Fourth of July, let’s go back to 1776. On that day, 56 men signed a document that would change the course of the world. It says, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal. That they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”

They put their futures and even their lives on the line by signing this document. They were me of integrity and courage. How many politicians today would put their lives on the line with the signing of a document?

These men possessed amazing patience, and amazing foresight. I don't think we even need this much fortitude today, since we still have the advantages of a system they gave us which precludes much tyranny. We just need politicians who understand the truths of the declaration and the enumerated powers of the constitution, and are willing to stand up and say enough is enough. Our government's intrusion into affairs that should remain the bailiwick of states, local communities, and individuals has gradually grown to the point that I can see the opportunity within my lifetime for the above quote from the declaration to become a reality in these patient colonies.

My prayers have been aimed this weekend at the miracle that is the founding of this great nation, the continuing blessings of God that we still rely on for it to continue, and the brave men and women who like these founding fathers, and thousands if not millions after them, who are still willing to place their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor on the line to protect and defend our physical security, and the benefits of our way of life, freedom from oppression by both terrorism and tyranny.

Today, they would make the decision based on what would get them elected back into office.

Our leaders were truly a different breed of man and character back then

today, a politician would act this way only if the polls and media said they should...
