Wheelchair carry question
Hello everyone,
I have been in a wheelchair for 16 years. I got my carry permit last year and I have been experimenting with many different ways of carrying since, but have not really found one that works really well. Here is what I have tried: Shoulder holster: Too hot for this type of carry and I have my gun pointed at everyone behind me. Serpa CQC: Sticks out way too far and rubs on my wheels. Unlce Mike's Nylon: Looks like a defomity has grown on my hip underneath my shirt. I carry a service model XD 9mm. Any suggestions? |

would an Ankle rig work? or maybe a drop leg holster.. Just a thought. Good luck I would love to hear what your solution is.
As well welcome to the forum!!

Since your mobility is with the wheel chair. Have you considerd attaching the XD holster directly onto the chair where it would be out of site of others but easily accessable for you...????

I would think that a holster fanny pack carried at 10:30-12:00 might be the way to go.

Plus, I don't know how that would affect concealed-carry laws. However, that may work the best for you, since you're more able to disguise it as or in some sort of chair part. |

Thanks for the quick replies! An ankle rig is out of the question because my feet are basically tucked under me during the day and my chair is geared for maximum portability so I don't have anywhere to mount a holster. It must be on my person in some way!
Thanks again |

Have you tried one of the "belly band" type holsters?
Galco Holsters Underwraps Belly Band This one has leather holsters, there are also ones that are completely made of nylon. Underneath a tee shirt, these type of holsters do a fantastic job of concealing a weapon. They are velcro adjustable, so you can place them anywhere from directly under your armpit down to positioning the gun the same as an IWB holster. Great for summer carry in a tee shirt and shorts, not sure how well it would work for your situation but I think it may be a good fit. Another option may be the 5.11 holster tee shirt underneath your regular attire. A bit slow to get the weapon into action, but you won't have to worry about anyone spotting the firearm. Greetings!
I would also recommend the Fanny Pack option either at 12:00 or 10:00. I don't think anyone would think twice about a 'Wheeled Individual' wearing a pack, altho I've stopped using them unless I'm dirtbiking or a similar activity. I would also suggest maybe switching to a more compact piece for Concealed Carry, if at all possible, as the Service model is a little large. I saw a XD9 4" that the owner had carefully cut the grip down to SC specs and it was Uber Kewl. On a side note, I used to shoot pistol matches with a guy named Bob. Bob was in a chair and shot VERY WELL, altho admitedly slower than some. Our 'Start Boxes' were 2" PVC pipe squares and he'd roll right over them. He never did win, but he wasn't last very often either... Weazel Quote:

One of my friends carries in his fanny pack. I've never asked him what brand it was but he is quiet handy with it.
He has been in a wheel chair for a little over one year. He was wounded in a firefight in Iraq.
