The Hidden Gun - What NOT to do when CCW
Just ran across this helpful little guide on another forum. Some of us may be guilty of these more often than we think.

Well, the best way to avoid these issues is to OC.

Good post, I catch myself doing those things all the time. I often wear shorts that have no option for a belt and rely on the elastic waistband to hold my pistol. I quite often do some of the things listed there because of that.
Good food for thought for sure. I'll be sure to keep an eye out for others doing the same things. -Derek |

When I started CC I made the decition to donate all my non belt shorts, and have started buying large shirts instead of medium...(wish they made medium shirts that were just a little longer). I do catch myself adjusting my gun when i get on my bike though...If I could just find a holster that held the gun 1-2" higher and that could be avoided.

A good gun belt and holster solves the majority of these problems. Support and stability keep you from constantly needing to adjust. I catch myself occasionally fixing my shirt to keep it from getting hung up on the grip if I've been sitting and then get up.

I do the same and I also find myself using my elbow to adjust the ride, not the hand. Anyone who knows what to look for could probably tell, at very specific moments, that I'm carrying. I just try to minimize these moments as much as possible.

I always catch myself doing the "running in the rain" move whenever I run/job while carrying.
There's no reason to do it as my holster/belt setup pulls my handgun in very tight and stable. I guess it's just one of those subconsious movement just in case it were to fall out of the holster (not my Galco

I guess the other thing is that I really don't care that much since open carry is legal in PA anyway...the only time I have to adjust anything is the shirt getting caught on the grip while transitioning from sitting to standing. I've not had to buy larger shirts to conceal my XD45 compact. It seems to do just fine right behind my hip. I'm still shopping for a gun for the front pocket as I don't always want to wear a holster or have a shirt tucked in to keep the holster off my body.

Good stuff. I'm still trying to figure out how I'll conceal when my permit gets here.
