Yeah, I was trying to do this for the least amount of money possible, so I just used a spraypaint I had on hand at first. That ended up not being very durable and also not looking all that hot.

I wanted to add a couple more gauges to my car since factory it only had speedo, gas, and temp. I already hogged the pillar with a tach, oil/trans temp (electric sending unit utilizing a SPDT switch to switch between the sending units) and oil pressure, so I was looking for a place to put them. Found on top of the ashtray drawer to be a perfect place since I never use it. Got a nice generic two gauge pod from ebay. I've had SEM Surecoat left over from the pillar. This time I shot it from the gun instead of brushing it on.

Color isn't exact, but it blends very well. Biggest PITA as you said was fitting it. Drilled a hole in the ashtray door to accomodate wiring. Incase you're wondering perfectly seen. (this is an old picture, forgive the old car mats and dirty carpet)
