Truck Question
Hey all -
I'm leaving for Florida tomorrow and had a question about truck weigh stations/etc. I've got a 16' box van from Penske and it's marked "10,000lb GVW". Does anyone know if this has to stop and weigh stations between here and FL? The lady at the Penske place said that I'd only have to stop if it said "All Trucks", but I'm leary of that advice. I talked to IN Commercial Vehicle Enforcement and FHP, they said it has to stop at all the weigh-ins/inspection stations in those states. A KSP division commander told me that in Kentucky, so long as it is not commercial/for hire, I don't need to stop. I've tried on a couple occasions now to contact Georgia and Tennessee, but couldn't raise anyone via telephone. Anyone have some knowledge they could impart to me on the topic?

Weigh stations are for making sure commercial vehicles aren't exceeding the state-mandated maximum weight for the highways in that state (usually around 80,000 lbs with a few exceptions), inspecting those vehicles for safety and equipment violations, and checking the driver's log book for compliance. If you're in a non-commercial vehicle with a GVWR under 26,000 lbs you won't be forced to stop unless it's a Border Patrol/police checkpoint where they're stopping everybody. If you're nervous about it, though, just pull into the first one you see and ask one of the inspection officers. They should just wave you through.

You will have to stop at the AG inspection station......then you can skip all the weigh stations. ALL TRUCKS must stop at the AG checkpoint.
I moved back to DE from GA in Penske's biggest truck(s) in Oct of 2007. You are fine all the way up/down I95, but you need to stop at the AG station(s) in FL.

Okay, that's about what I figured it would be.
