Well I talked to my dad yesterday, he ran over a diamondback just down the road from his house last week, I'd be more worried about that.

And those brown recluses are bad news too, be careful sticking your hand into any electrical boxes.

man i found a black widow behind my headboard on my bed. usually if a spider web is out of sight i will leave it alone. but not in the headboard and not black widows thats for sure. But for the most part i leave the other spider webs because they will catch and eat other bugs like flies and such. which are far more annoying then spiders.
i have never been bit by a spider at my house (that im aware of) well i stayed the night at my GFs house and she is really anti spider well i got bit in the middle of the night and had a allergic reaction and was in the holspitol for about 6 hours. i didnt end up having a problem from the spider bite just had a reaction from it, so it wasn\'t poisonous or anything

Try walking around the outside of your house at night with a flashlight, shining it in places a spider would be. You may be surprised how many you find. The wife and I generally do this every couple months, and we always find a 5-6 between the yard and the garage.

My aunt was bitten by a black widow on her arm, while cleaning out the garage of their Dallas house, before they moved.

You do NOT want to be bittne by one of those! The effects are MUCH worse than the brown recluse. She had high fever, nausea and respiratory problems for a few days after being bitten. The bit area looked horrible - selling, blackness and dying skin...I almost barfed when I saw it.

Doctors said she had an allergic reaction to the toxin in the bite. The only way to know if you're allergic is to be bitten by one. Hell of a way to find out!

Nasty, nasty...kill that thing and get the rest of them out of your garage. I'd rather be bitten by a scorpion or snake before a black widow.

I don't mean to scare you but seeing what my aunt went through...I don't wish that on anyone.

This calls for Overkill's spider photos. Who here saved them?

Man thats nothing!!

I was in California last year visiting my Grandmother and had the worst experience with black widows. The first night I was there I was outside smoking a cigarette and noticed a big black spider on a planter on the patio. I went inside to get my trusty old Surefire flashlight and sure enough it was a monster black widow. Being the good grandson that I am, I killed the spider and proceeded to check the rest of the backyard.............

No joke, I ended up killing almost 30 black widows that night. They were on almost every single plant/ planter in the backyard. It was enough to keep me, a 23 year old man from sleeping that night.

Yeah, they are very common out here in California. I found one recently on the back side of my gas BBQ. I was replacing a sprinkler head and happened to look at the backside of the BBQ. It was hanging out about 6 inches from where I have to reach back and turn the gas knob on! Needless to say I always check now when reaching back there.

A dose of raid did her in...

Just kill it and set off a bug bomb in the garage, or have the exterminator TCB. Hey those eggs will hatch in 8 to 10 days so get rid of them.

Also if a bird can eat a black widow spider and not die chances are your 25 lb. dog is safe, its true that the black widows venom is very toxic, but they just cant get much in you. I think there has been 58 reported deaths from black widow spiders reported in 50 years in the U.S.
I have a Pest Control Co. in Mississippi and we do see allot of black widows and brown recluse spiders but its hard to confirm an accurate number because every other call is from folks calling in saying they have seen 20 black widows or got bit 12 times by a brown recluse. I've come to realize that every spider a customers sees is poisonous, every mouse is a 5 lb. rat, and every snake is a six foot poisonous monster its job security I guess.
