4 year old girl shoots herself with Grandma's CCW gun. In WALMART!
Wow, this isn't good news for those of us that carry. Makes us look bad.
WIS News 10 - Columbia, South Carolina | 4-year-old out of surgery after shooting self at Sam's Club

Poor form grandma!
Her firearms is to be under her responsibility at all times. There is no excuse for that.

I hate that you never hear about one good thing that comes from ccw holders but you hear more than all the bad things that happen. Im sorry for the girl, glad she is ok. It just sucks every incident like this is fuel for the antigun fire

+1, its too bad that this will be used to change policy, its too bad that they cant see that this was just one persons poor jugement. if some one had left their child in a car and the chiled drove it into some one else and killed them it would be seen and one persons poor jugement, but since this had a gun, its the guns fault.

A reminder that we need to secure our firearms.
If it can happen, it will happen. We gunowners are ultimately responsible for what happens with our firearms. We can stop these stories from hitting the papers by being more aware of the situation around us. This is a topic that gets under my skin alittle. This was an accident and an unlikely one at that, but I feel it's common sense to make an effort to secure your firearms.
We live in a society whose media views firearms as evil objects. If our media wanted to be useful they would use these stories as a lesson to learn. If they are truly sorry they have to report stories such as this why not print some basic firearms rules at the end of the story. Why not print the phone number for a local firearm club or shooting range where people can take a safety course. If it would only save one child I think it's worth doing. I think it goes without saying that I wish only the best possible outcome for the girl and her family. |

My 2 year old routinely gets into my purse (any chance she gets). Almost all young children do! Why the $#@# wasn't that gun either on the grandmother's person or the purse kept out of reach! UGH! Get a fanny pack GRANDMA!

The problem is that Grandma doesn't read firearms forums or gun mags. There is really no discussion about firearms safety in the main stream media. I believe if we stopped treating firearms as murder weapons and started talking about them as a fact of life we would all be better off. We want to teach kids about safe sex because we view it as a fact of life. We give clean needles to drug addicts because someone said, "hey they are gonna do it anyways". Why not encourage people to take safety courses and teach their children to handle firearms safely. I'm sure some of you work in an office building where you can't even mention a firearm without getting dirty looks.
Grandma may have had prescription drugs or any number of dangerous things in her purse. I believe she simply had a lapse of judgement. |

I'm suprised that no one has brought up THIS fact:
Williamson is a respected name in Northeast Aiken County as a magistrate judge. Even if there were no CCW for citizens, this JUDGE would probably still have a permit. I just wonder how much Firearms training she actually did to get it?

I agree, its just because its a GUN, look at 9-11 planes were held up by guy with box cutters. Was there a national ban on razor blades? No walk around walmart at night and every stock person has one sticking out of their back pocket. A gun is just a tool, any tool misused is dangerous. Just my 2 cents.
