I don't have disc brakes or full suspension...I feel so low tech on my Gary Fisher Aquila! LOL

I wish I had the time/money to upgrade the beast and ride it a bit more. I haven't had it out in a very long time.

Yeah, I used to CCW a Glock 17 on a triangle seat pack on the Fisher and could get to it very fast. No need for a super small pistol on your person if you have the right seat pack. Mine is an old Blackburn bag...forget the model but you can open the compartment realy fast. It was NOT made for a pistol...but the old G17 fit there nicely.

Hadn't thought of that. Thanks. Gotta' link?

re: Gary Fisher

Hard tails are great for what I do. Really good full suspension bikes are very pricey, and usually not needed for the average rider. There are some V brakes that bite just as hard as some disc brakes also. Discs are smoother and are better in mud/water etc. Fisher makes good bikes.

Ha - that's what I'm riding now - a Fisher Hi-Fi Team Pro 29er! I agree about the hardtail comment, btw. If you don't spring the $$ for a good one, you get FAR more for your money by staying with a hardtail.

If you're carrying while riding (I always do) - there are two incredibly good options. Camelbak Goblin carried crosstrap across the chest or Fishpond DoubleHaul for hardcore long rides.

man... I so love 2 wheels and dirt. ...like PBJ and chocolate milk.

I've got one of those Goblins. I use it mostly for running, with a ruger LCP and some water in it. works great (though accessing the weapon involves a big velcro-tearing sound).

for my 2-wheeled carrying, I go with a 5.11 holster shirt and a baggy sport shirt over it. I only got the holster-shirt this spring, and had doubts if I could wear 2 shirts and ride in the Austin summers. the heat's here, and riding in 2 shirts doesn't seem much different than just 1. hot is hot, I guess.

I'm also a big guy, and for my front fork I prefer steel. here's my main ride:

the hills here in Austin can be steep, but they're pretty short. 1 gear does fine.

if what you're riding is primarily smooth, you might want to consider a steel fork. simpler, lighter, dont bob while you pedal. a good one can be had for $60 or so.

I, too, have the Specialized HardRock. No full suspension or disc brakes, but it serves my light-duty, off-road riding needs just fine.

I have so many babies. I have my gun babies, laptop baby, and bike babies.

I have a 2002 Klein Adept Pro. She's been hitting trails hard since I bought her in early '03. Looks just like this one, but with many modifications. It's a zirconium alloy frame with a carbon fiber chainstay. All XTR components. Avid ceramic brakes.

I've got her at 25.5 lbs!

Very nice! I too actually prefer V-brakes over discs.

I gave up on bicycles the last time I went with my FIL up and down Mt. Pocono. Now the only thing I ride with 2 wheels have a motor.
