My last bike was a '06 GSX-R 600. If you want a bike get a GSX-R, there is a reason they always win the AMA, it is because they are the best, there is a lot of handling differences between the 05 and 06. I suggest the 06, I loved it sooo much.

I rode one time without a helmet, and I'll never do it again. That is a scary feeling knowing there is nothing between your squash and the pavement.

I had an 06 GSX-R 600, got rid of it because I always chose to ride my 06 DRZ400S instead...

What I don't understand is here in Pa. you don't have to wear a helmet but you have to wear a seatbelt,,,this makes no sense at all,,
I don't have my GSXR anymore but if I did I'd have a helmet on,,I have a buddy who wears his leathers but no helmet,,I laugh at him all the time....and no his IQ doesn't resemble mine in the least

Here is my thought on helmets.

Make them optional. But with this caveat. If you are not wearing a helmet and you get in an accident and end up with brain damage you and your family get NO assistance of any kind.

dont be that guy, helmets arent that bad. check out craigs list. they have bikes for really cheap, you just gotta know what to look for so you dont get ripped off. i got my first gsxr 750 when i was 18, you might as well get one used b/c if its you first one you are bound to drop/lay it down. trust me it happens to just about everyone, even people who ride cruisers.

My .02

I have been riding now for 15 years. I started off riding without a helmet. I always owned one, but only used it once in awhile. Now I wear one ALL the time when I'm out on the bike in traffic, but thats my decision. I'm tired of government trying to force their own views on other people. Especially when its only going to hurt the person who is not protecting themselves. Its your choice if you want to splat into a wall with, or without a helmet. Its not going to hurt you if I don't wear a helmet, but the last thing we need is the government making more decisions for people.

Helmet laws are in the same category like gun laws. If you don't want the government involved in EVERY part of your life, don't let them make laws that someone can decide for themselves. Let us make our own decisions. Its my right to own a firearm, its also my right to not wear a helmet.

I'm just saying we don't need anymore "LAWS" in this country where it wont hurt anyone else. I'm only referring to sane people riding with and without helmets. If someone else wants to risk it by all means let them wreck without it. 90% of the time no one else is injured but the biker/passenger. The other 10% is the moron doing a buck-fifty into a car or another squid situation.

Good luck riding, Keep the polished side up, and always ride your own ride, dont try to keep up or show off.

Best Reguards
Mike

If they are lucky they might make to oldfart status. I always laugh when I see people with sunburned heads. Not wearing a helmet, at least long pants and decent shoes makes no sense to me.

Not to highjack but since you mentioned sport bikes, please tell me you won't make it bad for the rest of us by doing what I see lately. Lane blocking, holding up traffic, wheelies in heavy traffic, yada yada.

I like to ride fast and hard and in my non Harley days did my share of wheelies but there is no place for it around the general public or in traffic.

If these idiots keep it up, no one will have over 50cc's The anti-gunners will become anti-bikers. And yeah, I love the kids with the mo-hawk helmets, sandles, t-shirts and shorts. Real smart biker boys.

This is by no means a scientific observation, but here is my experience with helmets.

In 2nd grade I was in a little wreck with my BMX jumping a ramp at may be 15 20 mph. Probibly less. Cut my head my ear had abrasions down my cheek, and a broken nose. No helmet on

The guy in the next bed in the ER was in a motorcycle wreck with a cut about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch long on his forehead. That was the extent of his injuries. He had on a helmet. Probibly caused by the front lip of the helmet. Who knows what injuries he would have had without the helmet.

That being said, I am of the opinion that is you don't wear one you are putting your life at risk, and you should have an insurance policy that can take care of your family when the time comes.

There certainly are cases where a helmet probibly wouldn't make a lick of difference. Case in point my Mom's friend's husband just died a month ago. He ran head on into a car with no helmet on. I don't think a helmet would have made a difference.

In the neighborhood where my Mom's friend lives(the same one that lost the husband) two idiot kids on a Ninja of some type ran a stop sign last week at extreme speed and ran into a small SUV. They hit the car so hard that it flip it on it's side. They weren't wearing helmets but were probibly dead on impact anyway (helmet or not).
