FL ccw permit application...
Anyone who has recently filled the application out? I am trying to figure out question #4 and what it ACTUALLY means. There's this big "explanation" in the booklet, but I just don't decifer lawyerese very well. Who is exempt from what?
I already asked this at 2 other forums and no one wants to give me a translation or tell me if they put yes or no for an answer. Someone told me to answer no, but I don't trust them- I want to know what the question means and understand it first.

Are you one of the people listed in the instructions? If not, you answer no.
If you are and want your address etc. hidden from public record, answer yes.

If these are the questions above and I do remember something like those on the application then you want to hide your CCW from public record. You do not want people doing a background check on you and finding that you have a CCW. That's what the NRA firearms instructor told the class.

And therein lies my confusion! Is it about the people listed or the ccw info being confidential?

If you are a fire fighter or one of the other types of people listed, you can have your personal information like address etc. withheld from public scrutiny. If you are not one of the people listed, like a fire fighter, you don't get the choice. Therefor if trapper/taxidermist is not one of the listed people, you answer no.

The application for the permit is a public record. All information on the app is available to the public unless you are one of the exempted and request that it be made unavailable to public scrutiny. Law enforcement past or present, firefighters, judges, state attorneys, etc. can all request that the personal information be withheld. Home address, phone, SS, photos are included.

The question reads;
4a) Do you qualify for exemption from the public records law as provided by Section 119.07 (6)(i) Florida Statutes? 4b) If yes, do you wish to have this information kept confidential?

The general public (i.e. Individual applying for permit) is no longer subject to public records search. Only those filing for other types of weapons permits are still subject to public records search.
