I am not saying this to be judgemental, it is meant literally...
I can't understand why people would knowingly ingest something that even has a chance of adverse side effects, when there are 1000 other choices. It really makes me wonder if there is an addictive quality, because for example I smoke when I know it is bad for me, but I am addicted to it so I just continue to do it and procrastinate on when I'll quit... I do it because I am addicted. It makes no sense otherwise.

Snopes showed it's face.

This from 27 years ago -

"After reviewing scientific studies, FDA
determined in 1981 that aspartame was
safe for use in foods". Which was last
updated in 1994.

If it is possibly addictive, as suggested in
a post above, then it will live on the market
forever. The driving force, GREED, will not be
put down because a few million people die off
from it's usage. Hello, we are disposable!

I have not found the info yet during research
of the net, but I am going to venture and say
that the product in question is probably now
being produced off shore in order to hide the
real effects of the production making process
which is still very deadly to the homo erectus
genis.

Capitalism, how could we exist without it?!

To those who are addicted to any of the
chemicals, you have my blessings, but, do
not ask for my money to feed your habit.

I'm diabetic so I don't drink regular soda, except when my sugar is low. I mainly drink Diet Dr. Pepper, or the flavored Diet Cokes. I also really like Fresca... it's sugar free, and flavored.

If ingestion into the lungs can kill you,

I drink water, period!

Umm... Ed. You might want to check out this site. Dihydrogen Monoxide Research Division - dihydrogen monoxide info

Water taken into the lungs will kill you too. Water in the digestive tract can also kill you.

By the way, for those who do not recognize
Dihydrogen Monoxide (H2O), it's my favorite
and only fluid intake.

snopes.com: Aspartame -- Sweet Poison?

They did the same boogey-man about Saccharin. To add, i've been drinking diet sodas since i graduated high school, 5 years, to the tune of about a 2 liter a day, and every time i go out to eat. Never have I had an ill effect from it. Again, i'm not saying that you didn't really have problems, i'm just saying its quite possible that aspartame wasn't to blame. Aspartame has been blamed for everything from cancer to gulf war syndrome. Not to mention that for every study that claims artificial sweeteners are bad, there is one claiming no ill effects.

What it really comes down to is a glut of anecdotal evidence and inconclusive studies. My thing is, is that Aspartame is so prevalent in the food supply, and there are so few instance and such a wide variety of symptoms that its nearly impossible to pin down to one factor. If the stuff was so terrible, we'd all be dead, blind, have brain cancer, have gulf war syndrome, be deaf, have seizures, migraines, numbness of the limbs, depression, irritability, anxiety, insomnia, phobias, facial pain, tremors, tachycardia, palpatations, shortness of breath, abdominal pain, diarrhea, rash, hives, asthma, menstrual changes, hair loss, weight loss, weight gain, brain damage etc.

no i didn't make those up. Those are all "side effects" of aspartame "poisoning." You would think that with all the aspartame (and artificial sweeteners in general) in our food supply, everyone would be dying. not from consuming massive amounts, but from the slow buildup of it in our systems. correlation does not imply causation.
SNOPES would simply go out and find the FDA report that says it is ok, post it on their site, and I should believe it because it is Snopes? That is like believing wikipedia.

Very few people, including Monsanto, will deny that it metabolizes into methanol and ultimately formaldehyde.

Both substances cause retinal damage, retinal bleeding, and optic nerve damage. It is the same stuff that Whinos drink for a cheap buzz, and go blind. In 2004 I started experiencing retinal bleeding for no apparent reason. I did not have the normal conditions present that cause retinal bleeding (ex: HBP). They could not figure it out. It would appear to me that I was looking through red, opaque watermarks. At night, I would see "hot spots" in my vision where the blood was pressing on the retina. I flew to a eye surgeon, one of the top in the nation, in Washington D.C. After eliminating a bunch of other things, he asked me how much Aspartam that I used. I told him 3 to 5 liters a day. He told me to STOP now. Within two months the bleeding subsided, and I have not had a problem since then. And, I DID go through a withdrawal getting off it. I tried to substitute with coffee, thinking it was caffeine. Didn't help. I CRAVED diet pop for months.

How do we know that it is not harming people? Anti-depressants are being prescribed at incredible rates, these days. Could it be the Aspartame that they are washng the Paxil down with? Who knows?

I am off of it, and quite happy to be.

Oh, the same people that invented Aspartame invented Saccharin. Around the time that they released Aspartame, the Sacharrin scare came out. Perfect timing. Just in time to force a reason to switch all drink manufacturers to their more profitable new product. LOL!!! You never know. Monsanto is right up there with Halliburton.

I am sure that most people will never have a problem with it. i have a buddy that has drank a two liter of Diet Coke, warm, every day for 18 years or so. He is only minimally brain dead. LOL!!
