Stop drinking from habit, and drink when you're thirsty. You can 'stomach' anything, you choose not to. Just by switching to a diet drink, you can drop some serious weight. Just switch your mindset from 'i'd rather have..." to "This is what I have...."

And diet Dr Pepper isn't that bad......

Aspartame(Phenylalinine) is terrible, and is straight up poison. If you would like to PM me, I would be happy to detail a two year nightmare that I lived through thanks to Aspartame. Basically, I used to drink TONS of it in Diet Dr. Pepper. Several liters a day. It started damaging the retinas in my eyes. I was having retinal bleeds at age 34. I ended up at one of the leading eye doctors in the United States, and he asked me if I drank Aspartame. His solution was to get off the Aspartame.

I went through a withdrawal from Aspartame that included terrible mood swings and depression. I am normally a Type-A hyper twit. The 2 month withdrawal period for me was hell, and my friends anhd family suffered from my personality changes.

Aspartame can only metabolize out of your system by turning to Formaldehyde. Nothing like a good embalming, huh?

Aspartame can be dangerous as others have stated, AND it slows weight loss. If you need a sweetener use Splenda. Diet Rite cola is made with Splenda, but it is not nearly as easy to find as Coke etc. My grocery store will have 20 rows of Coke and one row of Diet Rite and they are usually gone. LOL

Diet Rite tastes good to me, but I am used to diet pop/soda/cola.

Aspartame, brought to you by the fine makers of Agent Orange. (Monsanto)

My biggest problem is that I gained a good 50 or 60 pounds when I was started on an anti-depressant, but I stopped taking that recently and the weight is going fairly quickly. I won't be drinking stuff with Aspertame forever, its just to get over not having so many soft drinks during the day and moving to more water.
I really just dropped my desire to drink sodas. It was hard at first, but when I occasionally have a burger at a fast food place, I get light lemonade or water. I really enjoy water. Especially in the 90+ degree heat we're having.

Avoiding diabetes and other health problems requires making choices that your body won't necessarily agree with...a lot of it is mental and desire for the taste.

I've heard people who drink a lot of diet sodas don't really lose all that much weight, that they make you crave carbs and what not. My aunt has been drinking diet Pepsi for at least 20 years, if not that long, as long as I can possibly remember, and I don't think she's ever lost a pound because of it.

I drink Diet Dr. Pepper. I will deal with any effects of aspertame should they happen. I have lost 42 pounds simply by switching to Diet and giving up my Wonder Bread for whole grain white. I see it as a risk vs. reward issue. Any substance like this will have some people who are affected poorly by it. And others who ingest it with no ill effects. For me, it is a quality of life issue. Switching to diet is the only thing I found to help me lose weight. And I can't stomach regular milk (I drink lactose free), tea, coffee, most alcohol, some juices and water that is not very cold or throughly filtered. And Spenda in high doses is bad for my digestion too. So my options are limited.

aspertame

After the forumla was contained, it
went into production. Workers started
having problems medically. Company
doctors found that inhaling the aspertame
caused damage to the lung system and
some died.

All workers started wearing throw away
masks. Helped some, not all. Company
went to contained back packs for a
closed breathing machine to ward off
ingestion of aspertame. People had less
complaints after that. Death rate went
down.

If ingestion into the lungs can kill you,
there is not doubt in my mind that taking
it down the digestive route can be absorbed
just as effectively, sad to say.

I drink water, period!

I'm not saying I don't believe you, but there is no conclusive proof that aspartame causes any ill effects.

snopes.com: Aspartame -- Sweet Poison?

They did the same boogey-man about Saccharin. To add, i've been drinking diet sodas since i graduated high school, 5 years, to the tune of about a 2 liter a day, and every time i go out to eat. Never have I had an ill effect from it. Again, i'm not saying that you didn't really have problems, i'm just saying its quite possible that aspartame wasn't to blame. Aspartame has been blamed for everything from cancer to gulf war syndrome. Not to mention that for every study that claims artificial sweeteners are bad, there is one claiming no ill effects.

What it really comes down to is a glut of anecdotal evidence and inconclusive studies. My thing is, is that Aspartame is so prevalent in the food supply, and there are so few instance and such a wide variety of symptoms that its nearly impossible to pin down to one factor. If the stuff was so terrible, we'd all be dead, blind, have brain cancer, have gulf war syndrome, be deaf, have seizures, migraines, numbness of the limbs, depression, irritability, anxiety, insomnia, phobias, facial pain, tremors, tachycardia, palpatations, shortness of breath, abdominal pain, diarrhea, rash, hives, asthma, menstrual changes, hair loss, weight loss, weight gain, brain damage etc.

no i didn't make those up. Those are all "side effects" of aspartame "poisoning." You would think that with all the aspartame (and artificial sweeteners in general) in our food supply, everyone would be dying. not from consuming massive amounts, but from the slow buildup of it in our systems. correlation does not imply causation.
