With the sun at your back you can actually see them pretty well, against a harvested beanfield.

Tried it yesterday for the first time in months. 30" gong (3/4" steel plate) 200 meters with my XD45 Tac, bottom of the dot on front sight level with the top of the back sight. 10 to 15 mph cross wind. I took 9 round to zero in then I hit 4 out of 10 on the next clip. The thump when the 45 hits really turns heads. You can even hear the bullets hit the berm.

Even if he can shoot to 300 w/ a .40... what's the point? That's a bit out of the effective range of a .40 I'd say.

The point of long range handgunning is mostly just fun, chup. BTW that .40/180 that started at 1050 fps is still doing over 700 fps at 300 yards; more than enough to be lethal, and plenty enough to ruin your day if you get in front of it.

Kudos RTParso on taking things from the he-said-she-said theoretical into reality.

I managed to get "on paper" with an XD .45 Tactical at 300 yards. BUT....The target was 4ft by 4ft painted in 12" checkerboard, and I'd seen a ballistic chart for a Tommy that gave me at least a rough idea of how much drop to expect. Plus the ground in front of the frames was muddy as all get out, so I could basically just walk rounds in. Take aim, watch for the *SPLAT*, and keep adjusting until *SPLAT* turned into *THAP*.
Even so, I only got 9 rounds out of 43 "on paper".

I practice with all of my pistols shooting distance. my old Makarov 9x18 was very accurate around 90 yards.

I use an I beam 10" x 12" x 5/8" thick to shoot at distance. it really gongs when ya hit it.

the CZ 50 I just traded was pretty good to 75 yards with the I beam.

my new XD .45 5" ct is good at 75+ yards also.
I did not measure out the last distance with the XD, but it was darn close if not right at 130+yds.

maybe I will make a vid of it this summer.
