Question for all you Texas CHL holders out there.

Texas law forbids carrying a concealed weapon on the grounds of any high school, collegiate or professional sporting event.

So my question is: what qualifies as a sporting event? Does a truck rally count? A rodeo? Motocross exhibition? "Professional" wrestling? What about a concert at the American Airlines center or a rally at Texas stadium? Do most of these places (i.e. wherever the Mavs, Pistons, Cowboys, Rangers, etc. play) have 30.06 signage posted that would eliminate any confusion?

Just curious.

i'm pretty sure all of those places you mentioned are a No No, but i would have to look to be exactly positively absolutely sure.

Yes, those games with the Mavericks, Stars, Cowboys are all professional sporting events. It only gets iffy when you go to an event where people compete for money like a drag racing event. I think if you have some big name like Danica Patrick who's sponsored and her main job is to race then that becomes a professional sporting event. If Tuesday nights at the drag racing track is street car night and high school kids compete for a $50 prize, I think that is not considered a professional sporting event.

what about "professional" wrestling? Since it's rigged does it count as a sporting event?

If the players do it for a living, then yes.

Just curious.
I believe that is incorrect. You can carry on the grounds but not carry in any building on those school grounds. You can also carry in a church. You have to be damn careful about if your reading old laws or new on the net. Many old laws sites are not updated with the newer laws.

Ya, so long as you don't take txinvestigators word for the law. Any newbee ex cop who says the law is easy to understand and pretends to be an internet lawyer and works at an indoor shooting store should be taken out back and horse whipped. The owner of that forum (Joesph Cotton) is a real lawyer and can be trusted not to give free legal advice and he will keep you updated on the law as it is updated. Just be careful who you listen to when you go there.
