???

Einstein always called himself a pacifist. That small matter of working on the A-Bomb didn't change anything other than to show his hypocrisy. Perhaps what it really shows is that even a pacifist can understand that sometimes to stop evil you have to STOP evil. Maybe he should have said he was putting the 'fist' in 'pacifist'

A lot of his pacifist friends didn't agree, of course ... thinking that they could talk Hitler to death, or block him with Hollywood committee meetings, or perhaps setting themselves on fire or something. Just goes to show there have always been idiots.

Hitler wasn't stopped by embargoes, committee meetings, or protesting. It took guns to stop Hitler, just like it takes guns to stop criminals today.

Einstein's role in the the development of the atomic bomb was extremely limited. His work in physics laid much of the ground work that indicated it was possible but his actual work on the bomb was limited to a letter, political in nature to President Roosevelt and two days work on separating fissionable material by gaseous diffusion. He was not directly working on the bomb in any way. Source
