Our local Police chief recently resigned to take the position of Chief of the law Enforcement Division of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. Yesterday, the mayor held a press conference to announce the appointment of David Dicks as interim chief. During the press conference, someone came in & told Dicks that his 24 year old son had been shot to death in the parking lot of the apartment complex where he lived.

Wow. I didnt hear about that. THats a sad story. Couldnt even imagine. Do they have any idea who did this, or why? I guess if it just happened yesterday there wont be much info yet.

As of last night, other than saying they have no one in custody, they haven't said a thing.

Having at one time in my life received similar news, my heart goes out to Chief Dicks. I do know what he is feeling.

Sad story...but if it's Flint PD we're talking about, it's probably unrelated given the nature of the city.

I am with you. I don't think someone was sending a message. His son was probably in the wrong place at the wrong time and got stood up for $8 like that poor Marine on leave in Cleveland

Update: Police going door to door, interviewing people in the complex. There was a loud argument, followed by at least 9 shots. While Police were there, a discussion started that turned into a large fight among several men when someone said the word snitch. It was quickly broken up, and no arrests were made. He did not live at that complex. A neighbor where he lived that knew him said he couldn't figure out why he went there.

He did have an arrest record; home invasion and some drug related charges. His neighbors said he was really on the way to getting straightened out when this happened. true or not, I don't know. I DO know that nobody is immune.

I know the new chief fairly well, and talked to him today. He's holding up pretty well. He said he's investigated shootings, and notified families, but this really brings home what they go through.
