"Wish it was bigger"

Thought I would share an experience this past weekend. We had our yearly neighborhood yard sale. About 11:00a.m. I was informed by my wife that there was a raccoon in the bushes next to our driveway. To set the scene, I live in the country, on 2.4 acres of heavily wooded property so animals are no surprise. We recently put up some bird feeders that were mangled and absconded with. I joked with my wife that it was a bear, since it had knocked over the pole and ran off with the whole feeder….

So I walk over to investigate. As I stand at the edge of the bushes and look around, I see little Rocky Raccoon deep in the bushes. Customers and my wife inform me that there had been 3 rabid animals found a few miles away in the recent week. “Oh Yea” I say to myself. I already had my hand in my pocket on my Colt Gov’t 380 and unsnapped the holster. Little Rocky just stared back at me and then slowly moved away. He disappeared in the bushes and wasn’t seen again that day. Since he didn’t advance on me and I didn’t have a clean shot, I left him be. Didn’t think blasting away with the neighborhood full of people was a good idea. I chuckled to myself afterwards that when I first saw him I was thinking I wished I had my .45 on me…. I had caliber envy… I figured that since I trusted the .380 to take on any 200 lbs adversary I would have been fine mano a mano with a little raccoon. Kept an eye to the bushes the rest of the day and walking around my property ever since.

Called Animal Control later, only to get their “Office Closed massage”, if I had a “Bat in my house” or was “being held at bay by a wild animal” they would help, so I would have to wait till Monday.

After waiting for office hours, I was only able to leave a message for Animal Control. They are not a lot of help even during office hours…..

I think that if that animal had rabbies, he would have gone ninja on you. So how much money did you make at the garage sale?

A .380 is just fine for a raccoon, in fact a lil overkillish. You should see the damage a lil .22 lr does to their noggins. But then this is coming from the woman who dispatched 2 foxes with 9mm gold dots....

Send a message via AIM to cschwanz
Use one of these in your bushes, then a .22 between the eyes will end your problem...

Or, if you dont have any pets and you are nowhere near neighbors that have pets, one of these in a 5-gallon bucket, with a nice smelly fish or somehting in the back to draw them in...
Word of advice, be careful, these are obviouslt VERY unforgiving, but oh so effective

We have a very large racoon that goes through the garbage cans twice a week. If I had a trap I'd catch him and make a hat out of him. We also have been hearing more and more about rabies traveling west from the plains.
