Comment Period for CC in National Parks

I got this by way of Henry from MSI (Maryland Shall Issue)
Quote:
Concealed Carry in National Parks - comment period

There is an open comment period for proposed regulatory changes by the Department of the Interior to allow concealed carry in National Parks and Wildlife Refuges, (if properly permitted). 60 day comment period is active, link follows below:

If you leave a comment remember to keep them focused and polite. I'll probably draft a comment later today and I'll post it for peer editing.

Thank you for contacting me regarding your support for H.R. 5646, the Protecting the Second Amendment and Hunting Rights on Federal Lands Act. I appreciate you sharing your thoughts with me on this issue.

As you may know, the Protecting the Second Amendment and Hunting Rights on Federal Lands Act was introduced by Representative Paul Broun on March 14, 2008. This legislation would allow individuals to carry firearms and ammunition in the National Park System and the National Wildlife Refuge System. The bill has been referred to the House Committee on Ways and Means as well as the House Committee on Natural Resources. Although I do not serve on either of these committees, rest assured I will keep your thoughts in mind should this legislation come before me for a vote on the House floor.

Please let me take this opportunity to share my beliefs with you on Second Amendment rights. First, as a former FBI Special Agent and member of the law enforcement community, I believe we should be looking to enforce existing gun laws and then punish criminal offenders to the full legal extent of those laws. Second, while we must provide law enforcement with the tools necessary to combat criminals, we must ensure the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens are not infringed upon. The ability of law-abiding sportsmen, gun enthusiasts and citizens concerned for their personal safety to own a gun, whether for sport or protection, should never be compromised.
Got this from my rep regarding a recent bill on the subject. I do like the last phrase that is highlighted
