CPL class yesterday

Wow, 10 hour class! The class was at a local ski resort. range was behind the ski hill, shooting into a tall embankment. We spent 2 hours on gun safety, sight picture, etc., then went to the range for 2 hours. Targets were 8 1/2 x 11 sheets of paper. We shot with sights misaligned, one handed (strong hand only), from behind an obstacle simulating cover, etc. Fired about 120 rounds total. The last string was 6 rounds as fast as we could pull the trigger - the first time I was anywhere that allowed rapid fire. We also did some double taps - first time for that, too. I need to find somewhere I can do more of that; the local ranges don't allow it. Ranges were from 21 feet, down to 10 feet. I kept everything on the paper, & didn't shoot the obstacle, so I guess I did ok.
Then it was back to the classroom for 6 hours of legal aspects, the test, and went over the procedures for applying for the CPL, and the possible pitfalls the local county may throw up. Michigan's a must issue state, but the county's VERY liberal, so they do what they can to discourage you.
All in all, an excellent experience.

Congrats on the class. It sounds like you got to do more shooting than I did at the bass pro shop. Now comes the wait.

The range I shot at normally didn't allow rapid fire...but we basically rented the entire range so we could do what we wanted. I brought my P22 so I could really let loose

I think any range that allows rapid fire will be private.

The range we went to let the instructor have full control of the range for the two hours the class was their. He takes about 20 classes their each year. We also shot at the stand sheet paper until it was time to shoot for passing the class than we shot at a regular target. total rounds fired was about 120 for me the minimum, some had to shoot more.

One of the instructors, Gary, works at Mt. Holly in the summer. He said he's considering improving the access road to the range area & setting up a permanent range there for summer use.Extra income for the ski area in the summer, & fun for us.
