i agree to some extent though too. most of the reason she has any interest at all is because of the break in, even though it was nearly 2 years ago, i think she still worries about it, along with an increase in crime in the county.

and as it has been said, i want to get a firearm into her hands (just to shoot, nothing to own yet) so at the very least she wont be so afraid of them anymore. i think my howa m1500 in .223 would be a nice one to have her shoot, not much recoil, pretty loud, but hey thats what ear protection is for.

My mother is plain weird on guns. If MD was shall-issue, I truly think she would have applied for/got a permit and learned to shoot. However being as MD is a commie state, it's a no-go, so she is still at the " I won't touch a gun" stage. She COULD get a FL permit to use in PA but she seems to think the part of PA we go to all the time is about 100 times safer than Baltimore, so why get a carry permit for PA use? Plus I am getting a FL permit, and she and I do stuff alot together in PA, so I can be the one carrying.

I wish she at least would let me teach her about guns and get her to do a lil shooting at close range ( her eyes aren't too great, but still good enough she can drive safely). If nothing else to get her to submit to me showing her where I keep them and how to use them/how they work ( how to load a semi auto, rack the slide, how the gun works mechanically).

Now she is not anti gun at all, and she fully supports even open carry where it is legal. I got no flack at all when I told her and dad I was going to a PA open carry lunch. They did start to worry when I was running late and hadn't called them, but I thought " oh no", and called them to tell them why I was running late and to assure them that, no, I had not been arrested by jack boot cops! I told her the other day about some poor guy who OC'd at a carnival in one of the small PA towns we go to all the time. The cops got called and they gave the guy hell about OCing "where so many children were" ( GAG), and told him to leave or they would get him for disorderly conduct. My mother was actually angry about the way he was treated and basically stated " but he has the right to open carry in PA! That was so wrong of those cops".

Keep in mind both of my parents never owned any guns and my dad hasn't been real fond of them, however his dad owned 1 for a while, but gave it up during a Chicago gun buy-back BS waaay back ( 1960's or so), and my mother's mother owned a derringer for protection when she lived in Miami. Also my dad did shooting in Boy Scouts and in college he had this farm boy buddy he did some shooting with. My dad was also in the army for a while, but for some reason he started hating guns. I haven't been able to get him to do any shooting with me either.
