My advice is make your own individual decision about where you want to shop and don't avoid places because some guy on a message board said you should. Wal-Mart is no more inherently evil than any other big corporation in this country that we all do business with in a number of ways.

Personally I'm sick of all the anti Wal-Mart stuff going around and I think it's a direct product of anti-corporate leftists who'd rather see a communist system in play where no one is allowed to be rich and successful and all excessive money is given to the poor and lazy. They have just as much right to be here and do business as mom and pop do. This is America. So a lot of the people know nothing about guns. So what. What do you expect when the world's largest retail store sells guns? If you want service go to your gun shop for guns (I do). If you need to pick up some ammo and some milk then go to Wal-Mart (I do that too).

What's the point of having an agenda against them and telling people not to go there? There are far more worthy targets of that kind of agenda than Wal-Mart.

EDIT: Just to clarify - I'm not saying that packingasubcompact is an anti-corporate leftist...just that the "hate wal-mart" thing started there and has pervaded the rest of America in different forms... including gun enthusiasts.

I bet you would backtrack on what you just said if Walmart started putting up 30 06 signs.

I'm not saying WalMart is good or bad, I buy from them, but no more than is absolutely nescessary.

I live in an area where there are only a couple of small towns and I'd like for you guys to see what the Wally World effect does to the Mom 'n' Pop businesses when they come to a place like this.

I'm sure (I hope) WalMart doesn't come into an area like this meaning to close down half the small businesses in the area but that's pretty much the result around here.

It seems the only thing WalMart doesn't compete in is antiques and pawn shops and we have a bunch of those establishments around here now.

I wouldn't backtrack. I would change my position. What's your point? That goes for any establishment. They don't post 30.06 signs though and it's their company-wide policy not to.

Same here
I like target too but they're sure less gun-friendly than wal-mart. No guns, no ammo, not even any gun-related magazines in the magazine section. Plus there's the whole Salvation Army thing...did you hear that Wal-Mart is matching all money collected by the SA at their stores this year?

I'm in total agreement with DigMe on this one. Everyone likes to moan about Wal-Mart, yet they DON'T vote with their dollars! In a free capitalist society, we have the right (and duty) to pick and choose where we spend our money. Everyone should know by now that the Walton family is chop full of War veterans. Why do you think they still sell guns when K-Mart pulled the plug on guns AND ammo? The Walton family believes in the American dream, including our second amendment rights. Wal-Mart told Michael Moore to go "f___ himself" when K-mart buckled up under the pressure and let him get under their skin. Of course you never saw that in "Bowling For Columbine" because it would not have fit in too well with his slanted documentary.

Wal-Mart usually employs the disenfranchised people of our society. That is a plain fact. I don't understand why everybody gets off calling an employee a "retard" when in fact they may have some kind of mental or physical incapacities. Would you hire them? Would you let them run your family business? No? Then you might want to keep quiet! I don't shop at Wal-Mart because I am looking for customer service. I go to Wal-Mart when I know exactly what I need and where to find it. I am in and out in 5 minutes. If I did need some assistance, I would have some patience based on the fact that the majority of Wal-Mart employees are not sharp young college grads who are eager to solve my problem in the most efficient manner. I suppose some people would rather these folks sit at home collecting welfare from our tax dollars!? Let people less fortunate than you have a chance at being a contributing member to society for Christ's sake! If we want to project the message that gun owners are intelligent, understanding, and compassionate, the Emo kid attitude of "screw any corporation" is not going to contribute one bit to our cause, least of all when the corporation in question has stood up in the past for the same things that we stand for as gun owners.

The wanna-be manager acted like a fool, and over-stepped his bounds. Once the coat flew off and the kid felt threatened, the opportunity to use the occurence against him vanished. There's always two sides to every story, and we should be careful to not let the other side of the story fluctuate past the line of legality. Owning a gun is a big responsibility. Carrying a gun is a HUGE responsibility, and one should always be mindful to avoid any unnecesary altercations.

Flame on,

B9

I do go to walmart from time to time. I don't buy food or ammo there. For me it's just a trinket store. As far as the people who work there, I get as much help from them as I do any other store. Not much. As far as someone putting those people down because they work for a living, your just the dirt I walk on.

I'll leave walmart to the PWT and the crowds of sheeple, and support other businesses in the community that actually has a store that are not designed like a Home Depot with sealed concrete floors and are a little presentable. All WalMarts around here are crap and you park 1/4 mile away and wait in lines for 20 minutes for a few cents off.
